Some people laugh when they hear I ride a DRZ...

But then they've never ridden one themselves... so we have to forgive them for their ignorance!  :mwink:

Some really nice pics..

Love the comments about guys laughing about DRZ400 riders.. I also love watching the guys huffing and puffing with their fat ladies when they lose balance.. Ha ha ha.... I think if you want to go faster than a DRZ can go offroad, then you may as well use SAA and get it over with.

Mine isn't bling but it works..

Try and run start a DRZ, you'll be huffing and puffing in no time bru, ask me, I've tried it only to find out the fuse at the battery was fried!! ::)

Heh heh, yeah, a kickstart is a bonus.. Although, having said that, the huffing and puffing would have been there if it had a kickstart anyway, especially with the problem with the fuse.. There is however a trick to run starting any non kickstart bike, though the bigger the machine, the bigger the physical challenge.. The big DS bikes, need a second person as you can't do both push and start..
My DRZ has a filthy habit of running it's battery dead after a few days in the garage. Has a power drain somewhere, batt is new. I have to disconnect it to keep it charged if I am not going to use it for longer than three days. When it catches me, it takes a few seconds and it's running.. Though because the charging system doesn't quite get the battery up quickly, properly, I prefer to give it an hour charge before I use it..

are you using the kill switch to turn off the bike during rides? My battery started to fail on rides when i used the kill switch too much when we stopped, and someone saw the problem i was having and told me to use the KEY to turn off the bike, since then, i have never had a battery problem.

The previous owner of the bike lost the key or so he said. But that lead him to an auto electrician who wired the ignition switch, into the headlight switch somehow. I always use the switch to turn off the bike. I get the drift with the kill switch though.
I have since had a key made for the correct ignition switch and the next job on the bike, is to check all the wiring and to connect the correct switch into the circuitry. I know though, that there is something which is drawing current because if I disconnect the battery, it will stay charged for months.. without being ridden..

Heddles, you must add a tokkel switch somewhere between the battery and the first fuse, that will cut all power and will sort your problem, and will prevent someone from hotwiring it!

Yeah Louis...

I have a nice trick for that. Few 3 way toggles with a sequence for on, so that it is not easy to sommer start it.. All in the book of plans.. (",)

I bought this boney from Kykdaar and he also got it from a WD, was it DJ? It was delivered to my house while I was away on holiday! The bike is in excellent condition - can't believe it's a 2006/7? with 11000km on!

I added hand guards and a XR-type tail lamp and removed all the unnecessary black plastic parts. And right now SA has the foulest weather since 2006...

Here's a pic of my new purchase.
2006 model. 7900 on the clock..
The only thing that I don't like is the fact that this ouk didnt have a pressure cleaner so now the hubs and some parts are pretty stained. How do I get them clean?
Paid R25k - what you think ?

WINN's mag-wheel cleaner. It's a concentrated alkaline. I use it on the hubs and brake calipers. Best to remove rim from bike and place flat on lawn then spray on and attack with old tooth brush.

Be careful with a high pressure cleaner. They can cause more trouble than they are worth. A mag wheel brush, I find very useful when I clean my bikes..

Does it damage the rims or spokes if it comes into contact??

No, but by removing the wheel from the bike you are sure that you're not near painted or annodized surfaces which can be stained with prolonged exposure.

A nice screen that! When I made mine my brother called it the Pope's Hat. Yours is a different take on the same idea. Just goes to show how people can come up with unique things all the time. Yours looks very neatly mounted too.

This one was installed on Geotravellers bike when he bought it from me.

I made small changes to the Fairing,

We tig welded the bracket to the bike, have changed the dash plate and some of the mounting points to make it more ridged, will take some other photos once the bike is clean and I have got rid of the Cow Sh-one-t that is covering it from Sundays ride. still playing with colours and lights.

Oh.... Forgot to mention.. Alzheimer's I guess..

Chassis change, headlamp new, after a rock off the rear tyre of a well known KTM 950 rider demolished the lamp on it's original light. Small LED indicators and a nice compact tail lamp assembly. Tapered bars and new handguards.
Love this little bike. Yes.. I ride two big KTM's.. But this little bike has the balls of a lion..

Hi

Here is what my DRZ looked like when I bought her

then after mtbiker got hold of her  :thumleft: ;D (his conversion is excellent!! makes a big difference in wind resistance plus it looks very cool)

And finally she is ready for the prom ;) - (still needs a few DRZ stickers strategically placed here and there)

The decals are not perfect but the next iteration (will be different design) should be better. Learnt allot what not to do ;)

Hi all

Please excuse the double post - I initially posted this in "The DRZ Thread", and subsequently noticed this thread which is probably more suited.

I recently sold my trusty Triumph Tiger 1050 and got me a DR-Z 400, so I thought I'd just check in to this thread and say hi.
Here are some pics.  I'm still reading up on all the mods and deciding what to get, but I think one of the first things that will have to go is that excessive bit of tupperware at the back! ;)  I'm thinking of fitting the DRC Edge 2, which seems to look a lot sexier.

Well, it has now!  Went for a lovely ride on Saturday.  What a brilliant little bike. :thumleft:
But to be honest I think it has seen plenty of quite rough terrain in its life, judging by the condition of the rims.  There's lots of nicks and scratches on them - you just can't see it in the photos.  And naturally the previous owner cleaned the bike up nice and good for the sale.
