Worked there for a while, you going via the tar road or hunters road?
Coz you can get on the huntersroad about 200km south of pandamatenga, but you gonna see loads of wildlife and some serias sand!
Realy awesome road! But contact johan calitz first, his hunting consesion down there.
Otherwise enjoy the turf close to panda in the wet >:D

It's 50% wide dirt 50% track - give or take

I drove it last Dec (when it was dry) in my Pajero and commented to SWAMBO that this is one you you stay away from on a bike if it's wet
Otherwise - DO IT - It's a great road

Because one drives through a game park - you MIGHT just be refused entry from the Botswana side. From the ZIM side there are no "gates" so from that direction will probably be safer.

Thanks everybody for the wonderfull info. Would the huntersroad start in the vicinity of Nata? We are a bit pressed for time on the way up, but coming back down it seems to be a good option.

I know the tar had some heavy potholes and loads of trucks. Anybody been up there recently to give an update on the tar conditions?

Did Francistown to Kasane on the slab, in December and the road was still under construction in a lot of places. Be careful of the Ellies. On the way back, just south of Panda we found a tow truck hitching a lowbed that had struck an Elephant. Two dead and no sign of the Ellie.

We countd 26 on the way up and 42 on the way down, just between Nata and Kasane.

Thanks Geotraveller,

Travelled through Plumtree border post last December and it was full of road works all the way from Plumtree to Francistown. Been on the road from Francistown to Nata also, but not the stretch up to Pandamatenga and Kasane.

Did the Nata Kasane stretch in August, road still under construction
with a 135km deviation running along side, really bad condition, treated
as dirt road and let the tyre  presure down.

Did the same section in June '11 and we averaged at approx 130 on that stretch.  It's just bad for the cars and trucks and obviously you have to be careful of the wildlife, other than that, you can really push it.  Just a warning - the Total fuel stop in Pandamatenga was NOT open for business even though people in Nata said they were definitely open.  We entered Kasane with fumes to spare.

Unfortunately can't assist with info on the rest.  Enjoy and ride safe  :thumleft:

Hondsekierie has a point, I took 10L of spare fuel for the bike when I went and filled up when I could. I did find fuel in Panda BUT we pulled in just after the tankers left! When we got to Kasane we had to wait though.

Thanks for the fuel tips. We were planning to take 10l spare with us. Even struggled with getting fuel at Nata on one occasion. Will keep you guys updated when we return, maybe there are some new routes to discover.

Please do, tentatively planning to do the same ride with the wife and a mate in April next year. Mate has a Yammie tourer so we will slab it. BTW if your staying over in or near Nata try the Nata Lodge. I liked it.

One of the best places i have had the privilege to stay and work!  :thumleft:
Elephants drinking water out of the swiming pool 8m away from you while you sipping down a cool beer....  :thumleft: :mwink:
