Title: Suzuki DR 250S
Post by: SGB on July 15, 2007, 05:13:52 pm
I have offered a friend to help fixing this bike which needs some TLC.
Some questions please:
- Where can I find a left side cover?
- Any advice regarding fork boots?  Would you replace them or just throw away?
- Tyres? What type for dirt road riding - little bit technical sometimes, but mostly roads.  18/21"
- Plastics have been in the sun for a long time - how do you shine them up again?
- Any other advice / tips / what to look for from owners or those in the know is welcome.

Thanks in advance!

The sidecover you can try 'Bike Hospital' in JHB, farking expensive but they seem to have a lot of stuff.
Tyres, I went for Michelin T63, 18" rear and 21" front, battled a bit to find them, but they are lekker offroad, also street legal and not too badly priced.
Fork boots, readily available, good for keeping flying stones off the sliders. I replaced Peaches' Yamah Serow boots for under R100-00.
I don't know about shining up the plastics, could be a lot of hard work.
If it has been standing for a long time it would be a good idea to change the oil and strip and clean the carb.
Good luck, they are lekker bikes to mess around with in the veld.

Whats the standard width on those 250 tyres SGB?

The best tyre for on/off use, if you are looking for serious performance offroad, is the Dunlop D606.
130 rear, 90 front I think.

+1 on the D606 on the rear wheel, try the Pirelli Scorpion MT21 on the front.
