Title: Aternate route into Atlantis and playing in the dunes
Post by: Rough Rider on January 23, 2012, 04:18:24 pm
On Sunday a couple of rode from Table View through Parklands and along the railway line to Atlantis and then played in the dunes for a bit.

Lots of footage taken with a GoPro camera mounted on my helmet.

Those first two videos look amazing fun, lots of whoops and some gnarly corners. That guy on the Honda is moving big time!

The dunes videos - is is quite flat there but limited? Maybe it was just the perspective form the camera? I couldn't understand why you never crossed that dune crest? :dontknow:

Thanks for posting, I enjoyed it immensely! :thumleft:

In the open stuff that Zaar really gets going. I actually had a bit of a run on him around the outside in the beginning and then he swopped lanes and I had to chop and lost all my momentum and that was that.

We often ride the trails behind the dunes on our MX bikes and don't venture much into the dunes themselves; in fact I don't like riding the dunes; it is either boring or dangerous that is probably why we never crested the dune and carried on deeper into the dunes. Also the KLR which was with us broke.

Check out this video of the two of us on our MX bikes behind the dunes (Fulltaps the Zaar rider is carrying the camera on his chest).

pfff and no invite ??

I was riding around Parklands looking for Rough Rider.. they are building so fast there, shew. next time we will make a meeting point, I ended up riding around all alone for an hour and a half, then it got too hot so ventured back home to my pool.

That is just the tip of the ice berg; there is at least 50 square kms of trails at the back of the dunes in Atlantis. You can ride all day long and not ride the same track twice. There are some pretty technical dune climbs etc to test the best riders.

na I never got to his house, he sold the bike before I got there.. long story.

i rode around looking for you but no worries.. next time we make a proper plan, I was a bit shakey on the Zarr anyway, it was good to get out and get rid of the cobwebs.

Turned out the noob who rode with us was far from a noob and we were hanging on the cable quite a bit.

One of the best compliments I've ever heard, regarding Bessie:" She must have exceptional bike control to ride that slowly in sand, and stay upright."  :salut:

its not a compliment. its a natural response to a bruised ego about the girl 10 seconds behind.

Hey there Dave,

Please share the secret of getting your videos posted here (embeded) like this?? ;D

I've looked all over trying to get it right to post/embed my video into a RR.... but seems I'm doing something wrong WRT the "Flash Player Link" perhaps..... :patch: :patch:

Bring it on?  You of all people should know  ;D  ;)

Go to You tube and copy the url address of the video. (looks like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dq-voL3awLo&t=5s (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dq-voL3awLo&t=5s) in this example)

Paste it straight into your RR and preview it. You should see it right away.

(by the way this is a kick-ass video).
&t=5s

Then sit back and enjoy.  :thumleft: :thumleft:
