Title: WP Offroad champs
Post by: tau on January 25, 2012, 11:21:33 am
So we have our first race this weekend. I am still without a new race bike as....

1 My Tenere is not sold
2. The new WR's have not arrived.

So I will be doing a WC type Offroad race on my Rallye bike  :lamer:. I C lots of sweat and fun.

Will be filling up with 20liter fuel and try do the race non-stop. Hopefully my 3 liter camelbak lasts the race.

Any WC dogs want to come watch we are racing near Helderstroom.

Directions.

VENUE: VILLIERSDORP (GPS COORDINATES: S 34.0712.27  E 19.1755.76)
FROM CAPE TOWN:  Proceed to Somerset West, over Sir Lowry Pass, continue 65 km direction Caledon, left at R43 (Villiersdorp) , continue for 13.4km, then left on gravel road til you reach the pits (the turn-off on the gravel road is opposite the turn-off for Helderstroom).

I am on bike no 300.

Do you need to go into the pit lane if you are not refueling, or can you bypass the pits completely? In the GOC races here the pit lane is moer long (300+ bikes) with a speed limit of 30km/hr and you have no option of bypassing.

If you have to take the pit lane anyway, it may be better to fuel light (10L in the back only) for each lap, a 10L refuel and a quick goggle change only takes 1 minute. Don't know if the pit lane will be that long?

If you fuel light, how much heavier is your bike than a standard WR450?

Realistically I could push and risk crashing the bike and make top 10, but I need to preserve the bike for rally's. The weight doesn't really affect the handle as much as it does the braking. Even with just 10 liters she doesn't stop. We have 94 bikes and probably same amount of quads entered. Remember 3 hrs sprint race so no stopping will save me some time. also my quick filled doesn't fit the small caps.

Will decide later if I must TTFU and race flatout and make a spout for my quick filler.....I will blame you if I crash and destroy the CF  :imaposer:

I must just grab some points so that i can still chase the point the rest of the year.

Was great fun.
Dink ek was so 11de nie seker nie. Die bashplate is sleg gebuig van die rowwe klimme en rotse.

Lekker Tau, hou duim vas vir die res van die seisoen. Hou ons op hoogte met die race datums, sal kyk of ek nie n race of 2 kan bywoon nie. Gaan jy Enduro ook doen die seisoen of net off road?

The only reason the tanks didn't move back anymore, was because the engine sptopped it!!!

Good work Tau, BV :thumleft:

We also had our first "GOC" race on the weekend. Almost 500 entries (bikes and quads combined). It was massive with more than 40 rows of bikes starting 8 abreast (328 bikes started).

Some big names racing, Kenny Gilbert (2hr55), Louwrens Mahoney, Marc Torlage, Michael Greevy and Tyron Miller to name a few (that was also the top 5 in that order)

Hoofseun is very fast and took the Masters win (very well done :thumleft:) - He came in about 30 minutes after the winner, I came in about 20 minutes later.

Not sure if there were any other dawgs that may have been racing. Was good fun.
