Title: yet anotherboring tyre thread but this time knobs and semi knobs
Post by: madmax on March 28, 2012, 04:04:25 pm
so i need new back tyre... i am noticing i do quite a bit of tar on the drz, getting to ride and back from ride etc ...
i am thinking leave knob on front and go for a 70/30 or something... 70 being dirt on the back..
comments , thoughts, suggestions

TKC 80 in front
Mitas E-07 at the back.

It will give you the best balance betweeen off and on road.

TKC80 upfront, always!!!

Back tire: Mitas E07 or Michelin T63
(the T63 is very aggressive offroad, I've got one on my bike and it's giving me decent road mileage as well)

For good tar performance I'd say get Mitas E07, Mefo Explorer (if you can find one), Kings KT966 or Bridgestone TW42.

I would not get a T63 to do tar & commute. Good mileage but rather scary especially in the rain.

I'd also avoid mixing brands and patterns. I've seen too many scary or at least unpleasant results. DP tires like the E07, KT966 and the Bridgestone TW41/TW42 combo work surprisingly well on "normal" dirt roads and only struggle under the most ardous conditions (snotty clay, deep sand).

Practice your tire fitting skills: Ride DP tires during the week, change for MX block fo the weekend :thumleft:
