Title: Looking for Djebel carb
Post by: Harleymonster on May 04, 2012, 04:47:15 pm
Hi

I posted this under general tech as well, but does anyone know where I could find a 2nd hand carb for my DR250RS (DOHC).
I am lloking for a BSR32 or if anyone knows of anything else that would work  :-\

Mine's worn out  :'( and a need to find a replacement.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Note: The BSR32 is the CV carb as fitted to the Djebel 250.
Better choice IMHO than the OEM TM31 as it's much more rugged and less wear prone. TM's for the power hungry.

Oops, forgot to mention which Djebel  ;D

Thanks  :thumleft:

What is worn out exactly?

How do you know it is worn and not just dirty with old fuel crud?

You can order new parts for all the wearing items like the slide, diaphragm, etc.

Other bits can be cleaned.

Suz is generally quite good for parts, just try order from the agent, they are not so expensive in my experience.

Thanks guys, but the problem with my particular carb is that you can longer get parts for it.

I had it cleaned and serviced, slide and body is worn  :(

After lotsa searching on the net I found out that the carb body is normally worn (on these TM31's), so replacing the slide won't help.

Looks like the Katana and the Marauder (GZ250) also used this carb.

You would think someone is making spares, but haven't found anything yet....

Seems impossible to get the correct part numbers, my DR is the DOHC model, the models you found parts for had the SOHC motor and ran a different carb. Very confusing story getting info on these bikes  ??? , I've been seaching overseas sites, some of the DRZ250's also ran pumper carbs and seems they had similar problems with parts (on adventure rider). There doesn't seems to be any info on the TM31 on the net, its like it never existed  :-\

Thanks for all the help though, really appreciate it  :thumright:

I can buy you a whole bike here (Dubai) for R3000. With the spare R3000, I will ship whichever bits you want....

Imported from Japan and running, but no rego papers so only good for offroad or parts.

Harleymonsters bike is a Japanese spec DR250, 1995 / 1996 model if I remember correctly. This may explain the 31mm carb she has. The bike however is excactly the same as the later DRZ 250 models as well as the 250 Djebel, so carbs from those models should fit.

I can get one of those. Since the embargo on Iran has been increased, the importers/exporters here are at a bit of a loose end. No-one wants such a small engine for Dubai as the sand saps too much power. So the bikes sit in warehouses.

I have friends of family coming over around the 20th of this month, that could get a box of parts back to Hermanus. I guess as a start it would be carb and rubbers, airbox, throttle cables.

Yep it's a Jap. spec DR250RS. I am sure there will be info on the www but it's all in Japanese :-\

As far as I found out there was a TM28 fitted to the DRZ250 and most likely to the DR250RS Export models too (if they ever were experted new???) The TM31 seems to be specific to the Jap. model.
Since the TM28 isn't really expected to be less temperamental or longer lasting than the TM31 I recommended to look for the Djebel 250's BSR32 CVcarb.
Whilst the CV by principle has a slight disadvantage looking at throttle response (mostly theoretical, a pumper slide carb has to be set up 100% to outperform a CV and throttle response on modern Jap. big bore CV's has impoved vastly over a 1970's BMW's Bing's) and flat out power (the CV's butterfly valve and shaft restrict flat out flow) it is vastly superior in everydays use as it is much less wear sensitive and CV's also often return better fuel economy.

Remember she wants the Djebel's BSR 32 (that's the one with the round lid containing the slide diaphagm on top) not another worn out TM31 ;D
