It’s officially happening;

the KTM 790 Adventure

Story: Donovan Fourie
We’ve known that this was going to happen since last year after KTM unveiled the prototype for their 790 Duke at EICMA. No KTM employee would confirm it, no KTM employee would offer any form of details, but we knew it.

Then, as expected, KTM unveiled their 790 Duke at EICMA earlier today, and shortly afterwards they pulled the covers off another model – a prototype 790 Adventure. And the adventure world cheered.

Indeed, the old KTM 640 Adventure had a helluva following, being lauded as a machine that could handle anything that was thrown at it, and its ardent followers have lamented all the “heavy road bikes” that have been released since the 640 went out of production in 2007.

What we know about the 790 Adventure is that it will share the same 799cc parallel-twin motor as the Duke and it will maintain the full 105 hp and 86 Nm of the Duke without any unnecessary “retuning” from the factory.

The frame is the usual KTM steel-trellis variety, the suspension looks tall and off-roady, and the wheels are spoked and look as though they are 21/18-inch.

As every media outlet has already commented, KTM could not have stepped into a more competitive class; the middleweight adventure class is a savage place with every motorcycle manufacturer out for each other’s blood. Although, while everyone else is making waves about how practical and economical their machines are, KTM have stuck to their racing guns.

Although this is very likely going to change on the production bike, due to be released in 2019, the prototype simply looks like a rally bike. The seat is flat like that of a motocross bike, the screen is tall and flat, everything looks beefy and off-roady, and there’s even what appears to be a road map of sorts on the dash.

The Prototype is fully functional, too, with them tactfully keeping the bike on stage full of the dirt it had been covered with while testing in Spain before the Show. The video they showed during the presentation was equally convincing:

I am typing this slowly so you can keep up.  I have not argued with Bie about the shooting of the Kid , I  made a sarcastic comment about it.  The argument was about the locking of public gates which is deemed acceptable vs trespassing which is not , both illegal acts.  The comment about the electric bike was a joke, spot the emoticon .   It obviously touched a nerve.
No, my nerves does not get touched that easily, especially if I do not have any interest invested in the matter.

But, each scenario must be judged on merit, and what I understand from Bie, on this thread and another where is gates was widely debated, is that the 'public' road (possibly a RoW servitude) is for access only and does not lead anywhere. Thus no access needed by the public and can  be locked.

So laws must be applied when it suites "you" and can be broken when its justifiable by "you"?  Should "you" be shot for locking the gate ?

Opposite is also true. You expect people to illegally ride on private land and when I illegally lock a gate I am the proes straat Pretoria. The gate was not locked right from the start. Illegal entry and damage to property was responded to with a chan and padlock. What would you have done instead?

Not all trespassers are 15 years of age and no biker with gear on cam be identified by age, so get perspective about trespassers in general and forget about this specific case for a moment. My gates are not locked to keep 15 year olds out, it is to keep trespassers out and if he happens to be 15 years old, then it still applies to him.

Not the case at all, I am just pointing out the hypocrisy.

Have you got a fence of any kind around your house, and if so, what is the purpose of it?

I have no problem in fencing and gating  private property , I have a problem with people that think they have the right to fence in public roads or areas which does not belong to them , because they can find a justification for doing so.  Clear enough ?

Yes, clear enough.. You only picked up the fact that Bie locked the public gate later on in the thread. You did however argued his opinion on trespassing from the moment you joined in on the discussion. You are the hypocrite.

I argued the fact that the kid did not deserve to be shot for it.

Well then you did not read properly, Bie agrees with that fact, yet you are arguing with him about locks on gates that impacts his safety. Two totally unrelated matters IMO

So Bie and I agreed what is the issue ? What did I not read properly?

Are you serious?! I am not in the mood to go and point out all your arguments RE the gates, yet you say your argument with Bie was about shooting 15yr old children?! Just go and read back when you have time, cause you will need to pay attention. I highlighted two to start you off.

10
Then you probably argued with yourself as no one disputef that.

Maybe we should clarify what is a public road, an access road, a sevitude road etc. In my case I have several title deeds bordering onto each other which used to belong to different owners in years gone by. Each and every property has to have access and there were roads giving all owners and their visitors access. Today no one else use the road anymore as all those properties belongs to me. They are also collectively fenced with game fencing, making one bigger unit. No one has any business going there, no one lives there and the roads have not been maintained by the autorities for at least a decade. Why would anyone be hellbent to go there, to do what? For that very reason, after people did go there to make kark, I locked the first gate, thereby effectively allowing access to the house and workers' houses, but nothing beyond that. Throw me in jail for locking it if it will make you feel better, break the lock if you will, but know it will be locked again. I am fed up with people going in and acting as if they have every right to be there. To do what there I ask.

If said road is mentioned as a right of way servitude in your title deed, it is not deemed as a public road. It extends right of way to the OWNER of the neighbouring properties only, and each guy who will be legally allowed access to that road, and that road only, will be mentioned in the title deed. Thus, since you are the owner of all those properties, ONLY you have access there, i.e. not public at all.
