KTM LC8 950/990 / Re: 990 Adventure clutch hydraulics

Glad you came right, did the bleed last night on mine. Helped a but, but I could see the thing is really badly worn and broken.

So where can I get a non OEM one in SA?

KTM LC8 950/990 / Re: TUNE ECU Cable / Diagnostic Software

It does do many things. So far I have just been doing throttle balancing and TPS adjustments.

Designed myself an awesome performance map, well I think it would be awesome anyway, but have been a bit reluctant to try it out.

Must say the software is quite sensitive, i.e. the drivers for the cable are a pain to get working.

Just want to put it out there; I have a TUNE ECU cable for the KTM. Got it in Europe a while back. If anyone on the East Rand wants to use this for a few days to fix or tune something on their 990/950, just contact me. Obviously it needs to ALWAYS find it's way back to me and I may ask you to leave something as a ransom.

The software is free to download, so you would need a laptop also.

Great info here already. Have the same problem on mine now.

Where can I source the Oberon or EVO aftermarket kits?

If not that, Jagsding, I'm interested in your used part if the OP does not want it. How many km's on that one?

KTM LC8 950/990 / Idle Speed Control Stepper Motor Problem
« on: August 22, 2013, 04:35:45 pm »
Hmmmm, so my scoot has been giving problems lately. Not idling, idling high, surging, power dips. Took it for diagnosis, initally was just the Throttle Position Sensor, but with that now the Idle Speed Control Stepper Motor seems to be on it's way out.

RAD has quoted 16k (plus 2k for the sensor)!!! for a whole new throttle body incl. of the stepper motor. One cannot buy the motor on its own, which is really pathetic...

Going to have a look myself now to see if I can DIY repair the motor perhaps.

Anyway, my options are:

- repair the stepper motor myself if possible
- have someone repair the stepper motor
- source a used one

Anyone know who can repair stepper motors? Where could I get used 990 parts?

Any advice please!? Has this happened to anyone else?

I'm on 30k km's, she is a 990 s 2008. Been serviced by the book.

Med aid and hospital plan is the best plan.especially in SA.
Im sorry i dont have one but being a self employed lecturer aint easy with the extremely high costs of a decent med aid.
So some of us are buggered and have to take the risk on riding on our roads.

They cost crazy money - and getting worse, but think at a minimum a hospital plan is a 'must have' in SA... more so if commuting by bike. Even if you get the cheapest hospital plan, it can make a huge difference to the care you will receive. Take it easy & charge more for lectures!  >:D

What if you down and cant talk and dont have medical aid?

Because if a private medic arrives and you not on med aid they wont help you and you wait for a state ambulance.
Its happened to me twice now.
F*$#@cking Shocking  >:( >:( >:(

It could then be too late  ???  :(

They have to administer first aid and take you to a state hospital if you need to be moved immediately, i.e. critical enough not to be able to wait for a state vehicle. The private services cannot transport non-critical un-insured patients, think that makes sense.

I'd rather spend money on a medical aid/hospital plan before getting this system though.

i can not give you a proper reaction for any emergency appart of medical or road side assist , if you have 3 guys with AK in front of you then - you got fu##ed .....

Might as well call an ambulance in such a situation too. Otherwise make the button for 'call mortury van'.  ;)

according to our calculation (and testing ) any fall above 20kmh that trigger 1.5g knock will potentially brake or damedge something in your body ...
on receiving this alert on our screen we will call to verify , if you do not answer your phone or answer and assess as some one that was harmed we will dispatch help
you DO NOT pay any extra for this and it is part of what we offer
the unit itself send an SMS to a no. you want to be notify as well

Sounds good, the phone back thing is really good! When does it go live? Do you think prices will come down a bit as the subscription base grows?

Like the panic button idea too. That would be awesome if I suddenly have 3 guys with AK's infront of me while riding a technical section somewhere out in the sticks.

Hi there to you all
to add some details and a little of history on this

about 18 month ago i was approached by the manufacturer of this system to help them with tuning and improvement  (i did some work for the same company before on their car security systems and un lucky for them there was no one that actually ride a bike to determined what will work or not ....)
to cut the 18 month story to a short post i had to redesign the all concept of the system to make it more user friendly- no remote control or extra keys - your bike key do it all !
what we have now is a device that connected to your bike in a way that will not generate any computer  and other electronic errors , it have an internal battery that will enable it to continue transmit after an accident and it is water proof. it will not drain your battery (which was an issue with other devices)

after months and months of changing over 1500 program lines  in this device brain and  very a long  roll of red tape to approve this device for the insurance and to have it legally permitted to use the GSM network  i got only half of the service ,the most important part was missing - who is going to react to the device alerts .
again it took some time and finally a joint venture agreement was sign with INT SOS ,one of the largest medical evacuation companies  in the world with over 2 million calls answered a month in South Africa alone !
what we have now is a Schlowy Customs dedicated control room with a 24/7 monitoring and the facility to actually react to any emergency .
we offer - Medical advice and assist , Road side assist and theft recovery

+(1) our economy plan R60 a month  - you call in  emergency and give them your details to activate a response (one month deposit require )all inc.  no additional fee for road side assist or medical evacuation ((T&C apply) - no theft recovery

+(2) R2500 for the device install and R200 monthly (one month deposit require )the advantage is when you are on the ground and unable to make a call the device will do it for you ! (T&C apply) - no theft recovery

+(3)ADDITIONAL  theft recovery plan will inc.   option (2) but monthly will be R280

+(4) R350 monthly which inc. the device leasing in exchange for 24 month contract (+R80) for Theft recovery (T&C apply )

installation  takes 30 min

you can call me or Kurt for more detail ,we are working on getting more dealers involve but as for now installation will be done only in JHB area until we can certify more installers

Sounds great, a bit steep though. But seriously, the biggest benefit I see in-case of an accident; but how does the sytem know it's a proper off, and not just the bike falling over or a low speed off-road spill in the sand?

Interesting, what if I just drop the scoot in the sand, would that trigger a helicopter to my location?

I'm not enjoying this thread. What if I've got virtually faarkal injuries thus far? Is it just a matter of time?

Ok, so after my Tokolosh method of putting the bike on the centre stand worked for a few weeks...

I finally have the final, final, real answer to this problem.

Should have listened to kaalkoejawel from the start, - it was the steering head bearings.  :deal:

See attached.

Yes thnx, did that during my troubleshooting, did not seem to help. Putting on the centre stand for 2 days somehow sorted it. Weird!

Just an update here, after I thought it was sorted by bleeding air from the forks, it got progressively worse and bleeding no longer helped. Then coincidentally I had the bike up on the centre stand for two days, since then it's 100% again. Makes me think it's somehow related to the rear suspension, which somehow came right with an extended period of no weight on it.

Does this make any sense? Just don't know enough of how the rear damper/ spring works.

« on: October 08, 2011, 09:29:44 am »
Also prefer a bit looser than too tight. Even slightly too tight wears the components down really quick. Just like to make sure it's not loose that it could come of, with potentially fatal consequence.

Lekker  :thumleft: , just seems a little gay refering to your bike as him, especially as your nick is EATMYKTM  :eek7:

Also change your location to the Western Cape - we did it 6 years ago and not a dull moment  :ricky:

 :imaposer: I wish!

Figured this out now, solution was in bleeding the air out of the fork. Strangely this fixed the problem, - all back to normal.  :thumleft:

Montana looks really good... it's quite a price tag though. By the time I'm finished it's nearly 8k with all the extra bits & pieces.

Can I somehow use my maps from my stolen Quest or do I need to buy from scratch?
