Relax Burpi, you missing the point trying to be made..... instead of trying to figure out oils branded and promoted as "car" oils which as we have seen here often confuses the hell out of most people i.e sold in outlets primarily selling to 4 wheel things and yes are sold as "car oils", rather use the products touted as and for bike specific...just makes choices for average joe easier and takes much guesswork out of the equation.

This is the best Friday 13th ever coz I bought a 990 to join the XR today... :thumleft: ;)

Congratulations , the 990 is an honorary XR anyway

Agree thanks Dux, I am keeping the XR so the 990 is a welcome addition, only 12056km on a 2009 model... :thumleft:

Really worth the money imo....

Run the 14t XRR front and a 40t rear on the XRL, I find its the best compromise for highway cruising and dirt ..... the slight offset is not an issue and I have not noticed any excessive wear on the sprockets or chain,,, however I did machine 2mm out of the inside of the sprocket.... :thumleft:

R750 for a front sprocket is just ridiculous imo.... ??? :o

In this day and age we should probably be looking past car oils, there are enough good bike specific/wet clutch products on the market... spend money wisely and look possibly at Motul/Yamalube/LiquiMoly/Shell etc.....oil in my opinion is last place anybody should be short-cutting to save a bit as its the lifeblood of a motor !

I know Runner uses BellRay Thumper for the 650's, have purchased in the past from them and is a great oil, also semiSynthetic

Do not overthink this, just get a newer better faster bike asap.... you will always regret not riding... life is just TOO short....  :thumleft: ;D

The XR650L I bought back in 2011 did all and a bit more than I expected... still enjoying it every day... but not my only bike though so I enjoy it for its simplicity and no-nonsense attitude... :thumleft:

I believe there are three reasons why the DL650 and DL1000 does not sell more.

- Complete lack of marketing by Suzuki
- Inability of many Suzuki dealers willing to make a deal
- SA riders are BMW mad.  We would rather by and 2nd hand BMW than a new DL.

Have to agree Bear, was the first time ever I rode any DL and imo if you want 2 up plus some luggage the DL makes a lot of sense... pity Suzuki not pushing it more... maybe FireItUp should take on a Suzuki dealership as well... ;)

I fully agree, but the DL is the Toyota Camry, does everything really well, just doesn't push the buttons.   :laughing4:

I always thought that was the GS's domain.... :lol8:

Had it on the track at Kyalami, only ever ridden it once now (tar only) but it felt like a really nice ride... easy to get into the groove, everything felt light as a feather and the engine all torquey and responsive....

Why do we see so little of them out there off the beaten track (and in general).... seems like a great value proposition  ;D

My 2c....

I spent the whole day riding on track this year and did not bother with the vendors (sorry)... rode 9 bikes so had heaps of FUN  :thumleft: Willie at Suzuki was an awesome marshall  :thumleft: :thumleft: :thumleft:
Was less people this year than 2017, and noticeably so
The organisers need to move this event to Zwartkops/RedStar etc. Kyalami, although a great track, will eventually kill  this event due to costs :'(
Great food and good vibes at the back...
My wife wants me to buy a Superbike after the marshall took her around Kyalami on a GSXR1000... ::)

But all in all an enjoyable day, I can see though that unless the venue/format is changed a bit the event will not survive another 2 years.. :(

Nobody in the 4x4 community runs steel rims anymore (for years now) and at one point you would hear same argument around a braai concerning "mag" wheels on 4x4's, so agree with correct pressures should probably not be a problem on a bike...

An experieinced riding guide once told me me to ride EVERYWHERE at 2bar and adjust suspension to soak it up.... being doing that since and works for me  :thumleft:
