Yamaha's inline four Dakar racer attempt....any write-up that you read about it reckoned that traction was non-existent. Couldn't get the additional power down on the dirt, so the extra HP made no difference

Fantastic photo's of the hike - that place looks truly magical. It might not feel like it now, but I reckon you're going to miss that place.

Good luck with the sail home - hope that you don't get sidetracked into having to save any yachts again on the way back....

Hi Tom,

Thanks for the fantastic pics! Looks like quite a hive of activity there. It must be quite a change from the "usual routine" for the team that's been there for the year (well, and some that have been there for two....)

You must be pretty excited about the thought of touching down here again. I must admit, from this side, it doesn't seem like two years that you've been on the go there, but must definitely be another story from your side...!

Jeez - that vetkoek looks lekker. Needs some butter and honey to accompany!

Well done on the weightloss. Just don't go too far!

That Cathedral is amazing. Any idea of how old it is?

Building was started in the 1200's, but it was a stop-start affair, and it took something like 600 years to complete and was the tallest building in the world for a while.

Unreal hey! So that was started 450 years before ol' JVR landed in CT......puts things into perspective.

Where's that pic of the Mirage III taken? I was always amazed at how small they actually are.

Ah - great news that you're back! I was really disappointed - it was almost like reading a book, and then finding out that the last chapter had been torn out!

Min dae!

Those photos of the waves are fantastic. Pity that you got nailed by one though - at least it didn't drag you back in with it!!

Hell - that doesn't sound like a comfortable position to be in. Winter in south atlantic with no power?!?

Hope they sort something out for your team. With no functioning crane, I assume that the only way that they've got for getting a replacement to you is by helicopter? That would really limit their options as to what ship could deliver.

Had a laugh at your sign manufacturing.......I haven't done the magnifying glass thing since I was a pikkie! Very creative, and looks like you have a steady hand.

Thanks for the update - fantastic winter pics there! Also, that has to be one of the most prime located treadmills in the world! That view is a million times better that what one would usually have anywhere else when pounding out the miles.

That is quite a long rope ladder - wouldn't like to be on the top rung when they start breaking like that!

Sounds like they've really clamped down on your freedom - not lekker. Min dae I suppose, but still.......

Congrats on your son's completion of qualification. I reckon hand skills / technical skills are only become more and more scarce - none of the younsters these days seem to want to get their hands dirty. He's got a good start for the future!

Thanks for all the great pics again! Island life must agree with you - it might be my imagination, but you actually look younger than you did when you got there in 2016.....!

Everything looks so "civilised" there. Lekker!

Have you been to Brugge yet? Quite a cool little dorpie. To my knowledge, there's also a pretty good military museum in Brussels that apparently worth visiting.

I was where you are now a couple of Christmas' back....no snow, but bloody cold!!

Thanks for the explanation! I was wondering if the lenses were polarised.

The colour differnce is noticable between your current pictures and those that you were taking in winter. Very vivid - for us Capies who're used to seeing brown all the time, it makes a great change.

That picnic you guys had looked like a good time - ideal setting for it! It seems like your current team is "closer" than the last.

Thanks again for the photos - I think your thread is the first stop in the morning for many of us!

Holy smokes - that looks fantastic!!! You're a lucky man.

What's the nighttime temperature like up there?
