General Technical / Bolt Removal
« on: May 23, 2012, 05:00:49 pm »
Hey Dogs,

I have managed to break 3 bolts on my bike, when attempting an installation of new pannier and top case racks.  :frown:

They are M8 and M6 in size.

Can anyone recommend someone who is skilled in this department. I live on the East Rand, so someone close by would be first prize.

Thanks in advance.

Clothing and Equipment / BMW Clothing

Hi All,

I need some info on the warranty on BMW clothing.

My airflow jacket's zip has failed where you insert the back protector. So, as it is only a year old, and the garment carries a two year warranty, I inquired as to the procedure for the repair.

To my amazement I was informed that the warranty excludes zips! They will have it fixed for me, but at my cost. I'm not too bothered about paying for a repair, how much can it really cost, but this is news to me on the warranty side.

I looked on the net and read the booklet that came with the jacket, and I can't find anything to confirm this.

Can anyone shed any light on the subject.

BMW 1200/ADV / BMW1200GS 20,000 KM Service Cost
« on: September 14, 2011, 07:50:43 pm »
Hi All,

I need some feedback as to the cost of a typical 20,000KM service on a 1200GS.

I recently had mine serviced at a BMW dealer, but when I compared it to a few riding buddies with similar bikes, their service was much less expensive.

My GS1200 is a 2010, new spec bike. My service cost R 2900.00. It did not include brake pads, but did include for new spark plugs. Overall it seems like a normal service, nothing stands out as abnormal.

R 1300.00 was for labour, R 1100.00 for parts, balance was miscellaneous Lifestyle items and lubricants. (all prices are ex VAT)

Is the price I paid at least in the ball park of other riders, or should I be concerned?

BMW 1200/ADV / Gear Jump
« on: August 21, 2011, 12:20:45 pm »
Please Help, I'm not very technical on these matters...

I was shunting along on my R1200GS (2010) this morning in 6th gear, when all of a sudden the gear reading on the display went blank, and the bike appeared to change down to 5th. I kicked the gears, and although it didn't seem to change gears, the reading returned to 6, and all returned to normal.

The bike felt very unstable during this. I then attempted it under full acceleration, and it felt like it wanted to do it again, so I eased off.

Is this possible, or is something else on the go?

Morning All,

Any of you dogs get stopped in road blocks by Traffic officials yesterday in the Magliesberg Area near Kromdraai Road?

They seemed to be just checking drivers license's, road license's and number plates as far as I could see.
They warned my buddy over his small number plate, no fine, but they did take his details.

I was stopped a total of 3 times during the morning, not once did they mention my orange light.

There was a SARS official there as well at one of the roadblocks. Anyone know why this would be?
