General Bike Related Banter / Re: Brutal bike crash :(

It's an horrific crash. I feel terribly sorry for his loved ones.
Speeding on public roads not designed for this is criminal and puts innocent lives at risk too.
The amount of riders on this forum admitting to such stupid behaviour leaves me dumbfounded.
I hear many such idiots pass my office on a daily basis.

The understeer was on tar. Tyres inflated 2.3 front and 2.5 back.
We did some gravel and we had some rain over the weekend and the tyres were fabulous.
On the way back, the tyres seemed to perform better on tar, will probably improve some with more kms

I fitted mine 3 hours ago. Massive understeer compared to Conti Trail attack 2, but I suppose it is to be expected.
Got them for R1750 at Just Bike Tyre in Centurion on Black Friday Special (Paid last Friday). Seems normal price is R4k per set

Planning a Ride / Bulembu to N17
« on: November 29, 2017, 10:40:46 am »
Good morning Wilddogs, My wife and I are planning a circular route this weekend/Saturday from Badplaas via Barberton and Bulembu back to Badplaas mainly using tarred roads but adding some gravel from Bulembu to the N17.
Has anyone done this gravel route in the recent past?
Please advise what the condition of the road is? Any technical stuff or predominantly a normal gravel road? Is there Cellphone reception along this road?
Is the Diepgezet Village inhabited and worth a visit? Any other worthwhile stops on this section?
Can anyone suggest somewhere to have breakfast in Barberton?
I have done DP and DP1 courses with ADA but I have not done much gravel riding recently due to a compression fracture of my Lumbar spine and I do not want to take unnecessary risk on a too difficult road, especially as this is the first time my wife will go along on gravel.

Your advise is much appreciated

Ride Reports / Re: TVB op vakansie na Gough Eiland

Tom, the photos labelled as Atlantic Petrel look more like Grey Petrel to me.
Atlantic Petrel has dark brown head, upper breast as well as undertail.
Grey Petrel has longer, more slender wings, dark crown/face but completely white below (underwings dark though) as these photos show.
Both breed on Gough according to my sources. (Hadoram Shirihai)
Grey Petrel is sometimes seen on Pelagic trips off our coast but Atlantic is seriously rare off the coast. (200 Nautical miles)
I have seen Grey a couple of times but seeing Atlantic here is a serious wishlist bird.
The Giant Petrel I believe is Northern Giant Petrel if I interpret the tip of the bill to have a red hue instead of a greenish tinge.
Keep the photos coming. Would love to see an Atlantic Petrel photo.
