I ust concur with mr.T, do yourself a favour and run your hands inside a tyre and "feel" the sidewall and construction of the tyre. Some tyres are so soft and pliable I would not fit them even I was given them for free..... ;)

Do not laugh but Rustleum's Barbeque grill paint is HIGH heat, comes in a nice matt black and paints like a dream, dries in no time and is very forgiving plus comes with built in underoat/rust inhibitor.... have used it with gtreat success on exhausts, casings, headers n all sorts of stuff. :thumleft:

lesson learnt want your bike to run , learn to work on it yourself , get a torque wrench and a service manual.

That is the best philosophy...  :thumleft:

Sad though.

General Bike Related Banter / Re: Managing ratchet straps
« on: October 01, 2018, 01:20:19 pm »
No issue here, but I only use the cam straps as secondary safety straps. Main strap is the ratchet as on a big bike I am not relying on only a cam strap to keep the bike tensioned/loaded/on two wheels...

If used correctly ratchets are a breeze.... :thumleft: i ride/load my my bike onto the trailer and strap it down unassisted, years of practice have got this sorted....  ;)

The dark grey 990 is the best looking, like mine.... ;) :lol8: :thumleft:

The new shapes just do not talk to me..... find they lack the character of the previous generation imo....

General Bike Related Banter / Re: My Retirement Bike ?
« on: September 28, 2018, 11:47:44 am »
The point in never to have only one bike, my '72 R50 is 46 yrs old and as solid and reliable as the day it rolled off the factory floor, taking it this Sunday to Gentlemens ride  ;)

But for real FUN i keep the 990, ride the SR500 for that thumper feeling, spin the XR for a light dirt track bash, run the Matchless for a vintage feel and the XT500 just for what the hell....

Point is, they all run way past their so called "expiry" dates, just look after a bike and it will outlast you....

Btw, who wants a bloody GSA tank for retirement....  :lol8:

« on: September 27, 2018, 08:51:17 am »
Dropped the 990 just last week as I was trying to shorcut traffic... lost moment cresting a rise onto a sharp bend when it tippped over to much amusement of the onlookers.... :lol8:

General Bike Related Banter / Re: Pleez. Talk some sense to me......URGENT!
« on: September 27, 2018, 08:44:20 am »
Bikes are not about being rational or making sense... that is what cars are for  ;)

I broke a cardinal rule a while back, bought a bike over the phone only from WA pics from Berto at FireItUp on a whim just coz that bike talked so hard to me...no sense, no logic just WTF.... ;) BEST THING I DID IN A LONG LONG TIME.... :thumleft: If I had though too long and hard someone else would be enjoying that ride instead of me this morning... :thumleft:
