Old buildings and interesting Architecture

It is probably because I'm in engineering, but buildings and architecture have alway fascinated me.
Lets post some pics of interesting buildings and architecture styles.

Here are mine.

Perhaps not so interesting from an engineering perspective, but i love the texture and colours of these structures (and windpompe of course). I do share your appreciation.

The talest sandstone structure in SA. Near Clocolan. Noticed it first in Bark Essay and the went looking for it when we visited Clarens. Second Photo: Swiss Alipine Chalet in good ol Clarens. I guess, when it snows, you don't need much immagination to put you in the Swiss Alps.

Stofstreep,

This is a message from my vrou.  She is a past chair of the Vernacular Architecture Society of South Africa (VASSA) which is a society dedicated to the type of building that interests you - but it is Cape based.

The person in your are who has done a lot of work over an extended period on those buildings (collecting info and making a list) is Mauritz Naude at the Cultural History Museum in Pretoria.  He is especially interested in the stone built houses. 
mauritz@nfi.org.za.  Can use my vrou's name when contacting him Antonia Malan.

Visit the VASA website www.vassa.org.za which has a listing of publications that should interest you.  She writes  "see S. Harris's list references and particularly Walton's books."

 The first Industrial office tower block in Europe, built by the Borsig Brothers in Berlin, they were pre war industrialists building steam engines power stations etc etc.


It survived the bombings.

The surrounding railway sheds have all maintained there facias but are soulless glass and stainless malls behind.


THe church I sang in as a choirboy in Wales ;D ;D >:D Now a private home >:( >:(
