Cost of service on the BMW1200 LC

I nearly fell of my chair, a friend had his 1st service done on the new 1200, cost of oil alone was R1700.
Is this normal?

Either your friend was taken for a ride or he exaggerates for effect. The oil is expensive at around R400-R600 for a complete oil change. My 1000km service was about R1200.00 and my 10000km service was R1600.00 which included a few extra bits that I broke during a ride.

The specified oil for the LC is Castrol Power 1 Racing 4T 5w40. Oil and Filter change requires 4.1 L. This stuff sells for the discounted online price in Europe and the UK between R680,00 to R960,00 For 4 Litres. Are you telling me that BMW locally is selling this stuff retail at way less than that ? Or are they using another oil ?

I can only find my invoice for last year's 1000km service on the first LC. At that point the oil cost was R1080. Since then the price have gone down significantly and my 1000km service on the new bike cost about R1200.00 but I just cannot find this invoice.

At no point did the oil alone cost R1700.00.

My 1000km service 1 month ago was 1412.59 incl. - Labour R372  - charge battery?? R46.5 - oil R451.5  - diff oil R153.3  - oil filter R215.7 all ex vat dude at bm said the price of oil from bmw had come down ?? Mate of mine just had he's first service (15000 km) at ktm R5500

The BMW branded oil costs that amount. Its the same castrol oil but is branded BMW.

I was told to ask the BMW dealer beforehand wheter they use the BMW branded Castrol oil or the castrol oil that comes straight from castrol.

My oil and service was R1200 but its the Castrol stuff not the Castrol stuff ina Bmw bottle.

Its similar to the zumo 660 or nav 4 or even the Bmw akropovic compared to the normal akro.

Take the akro price multiply by 2 and you have the price of the Bmw akro etc etc etc

Castrol racing1 10W40 is Castrol and some dealers use it, however it is not within BMW Spec much cheaper but you run the risk of warranty issues is you have mechanical issues

BMW pours oil in my bike, even if Checker NoName Cooking Oil, they sort warranty issues.  Easy as that.

My  GSA went for 1000 km service today. R1625  in Pinetown. Very good service,booked Sat, done while I waited....they get my business again...for sure

Serviced in Bloemfontein yesterday R1008 + vat, R240 for installing gear shift assist pro, though it took the better part of 8 hours. Hats of for Riaan and his team.
