GSA LC coolant leak

My LC has just over 1300km now and this weekend past after a ride I noticed some coolant on my garage floor whilsy on the side stand. It was about a teaspoon full and when I check I saw it comming out of a little hole below the left side cyclinder. Sitting on the side stand it obviously dripped out more than what it would on the main stand so this is the first time I have seen this as she always sits kn the main stand.

Any one else experienced this?

If memory serves me, this was reported a few times on the LC engines. ButI cannot remember if it pointed to leaky seals or if it was normal. Mine's doesn't leak, so I never bothered going into this issue too deep.

Either way I'd say take it up with the dealers.

Leaking waterdamp seal.   Because the water pump is internal to the engine casing,  that hole is there to show when the water pump seal. is leaking.

Yes, had the same problem on 15000km.  Water pump was replaced

Although an irritating glitch, it helps when the repair is done without debate.

Every bike ive owned other than a Vstrom has had this issue with either the water side seal going or the oil side going. Apparently its not a show stopper but i would definately get a dealer to note it.

HAHA!  I know about this little snipped (water dripping from a hole) because my V-Strom had the problem.  Still rode it back from Cape Town to JHB though.

Hi I seem to have the same issue, my bike is a 2016 model with 3000km on the clock. It went for a service and I did 200kms since the service a month ago. I did notify the dealer that there was some coolant leaking from the little hole on the left side prior to them collecting it for the service, they responded by saying it was probably just overfilled. So after doing the 200km on Sunday after the service, I noticed alot of coolant all over the lefthand side and the oil filter. I phoned the dealer and gave them my whole story, they told me to check the coolant level and it was below minimum (after 200km) well they collected it yesterday and say that they would need to take it for a ride and do a report to BMW  for a warranty claim. I must say that I am a bit pissed off, but will wait and see what their response is.

There are many reports of this on Advrider, and a large proportion of them seem to
clear up on their own. On newer models, they have a little brass nipple just near the
oil filter where it drips out so that it doesnt stain the casing.

I understand if there is some seepage, but the coolant was below min after just 200km, so there is defenitely other issues here.

This morning I recieved a call from the workshop manager informing me that they refilled the coolant and they took it for a ride, it did leak some coolant but they are going to fit a nipple of some sort as to divert the leakage so that it does not go all over the motor (apparrently all the new LC comes with this). I told him that this is BS as my bike has only done 3000km, my question to him was this what would their response have been if I bought the bike and did an immediate trip to Cape Town and this happened upon which he said they would have replaced the pump. So now they want to get one of their guys to ride it to work and home (JHB-PTA) to investigate further. Fuck, I am so pissed off, it is things like this that make people change brands.

Mine is a 2016, and it has leaked from day one. I will take it up with the dealer at the 10000km service.

Had a call this afternoon Bmw Sa instructed dealer to replace the waterpump. .That is what I paid for.....aftersales service.

I only noticed that my new spec 2016 started a slow leak/weep the night before this year's GS Trophy  Lucky for me our group had decided to ride with Zambesi  and they offered a free safety check before we rode out. I pointed the leak out to the service manager and they immediately had a look and declared the bike fit for the weekend providing that I keep a eye out for the leak. They then booked the bike in for pump replacement the following week    No quibbles or getting BMW approval. The bike had about 7000 k's on the clock.
