DRZ 400 South Africa Model History and Wheels

Good day all

When were the last DRZ400's sold in South Africa?
I'm specifically referring to the E or S versions, not SM.

I have heard 2007, 2008 and 2009.
I also understand that some bikes might have been registered as 2008 even tough the last bikes were sold as 2007.

I can check with Suzuki SA, but some time ago they told me that they stopped importing them due to the price increases.

Also I was told that the ones sold in South Africa were Australian spec.  (Headlight shines correctly for driving on the left of the road.)

I was under the impression that they stopped importing them because of our countries homologation with European emission laws. Basically makes it impossible to get a new  bike with a carburator roadworthied. Australia and most American states have different emission laws, thats why they are still sold there.

Not sure, thought that was why they stopped importing two-strokes

2 strokes also, I don't think you can get them roadworthy, only for off road, MX etc...I have to admit though, those are just what I heard and read, Im not an expert. Im sure somebody who know more on the topic will chip in soon

The importing of the DRZ because of pricing was told to me by the marketing department of Suzuki as I bought one from them during the time I handled their imports & exports.

Had a DRZ400E 2005, lovely bike until it got bashed up while somebody tried to steal it

Well, I know for a fact there's an issue with registering new 2 strokes.

The reason I'm asking is I am not seeing a lot of 2007> DRZ's.
I recently found one that is 2008. It's an E that has been made SM, just smaller rims and slicks. Really considering buying it and reconverting it back.

Any tips on converting?

Thank you. My main concern is that the DRZ I am looking at is a 2008 E version, but fitted with SM rims and tyres. Where can you find standard DRZ400 E rims (I think they are 21''18''). Preferably the complete thing (tyre not important).

Ping Adv (Steve) I think he had a set of Drz enduro wheels for sale about a year ago, long shot though, doubt if he'll still have them.
