UK - Spain - ongoing fun .
« on: October 24, 2016, 10:18:46 am »
As some of you may remember, just on 10 years ago we moved to UK , small children's future and blessed with a mother born there .

Well , the long adventure began , with no bikes for a few years.

However the last 6 years unfortunately , partly because wife wanted divorce ( a long story there) I started working 2 jobs.

Amazingly I now had some cash , so bought a BMW R1100S  second hand .

Then I decided to buy a KTM 250 Six Days 2 stroke, and started riding in the odd enduro , Hare n Hounds, and rallies.

So , life was pretty good .

I sold the BMW , bought a Suzuki DRZ 400 Super Motard , and enjoyed it .

But realised long road rides were hard work, so bought another BMW R1100S .   As you do   :)

Over the last few years , apart from the annual trip to the Isle of Man for the Manx GP and the Classic TT , not a lot of decent road rides .

But this year I renewed my love of riding .

We did a 2 day ride around Wales , on the KTM , in the "green lanes" .  300km on a 2 stroke was such fun.

A few weeks later we did a one day ride in the Brecons , used the BMW.

Then 2 weeks ago I used the Suzuki DRZ for another trip around the Brecons , also a 300 odd km ride .

end of last month , I was laid off ..

So , at just over 60 I am back trying to get a job.

After 2 weeks , I decided I can still apply , from my flat in Spain....

Took ferry on saturday night, from Portsmouth to Bilbao.

Met a Scot on board, riding a Ducati RS 4 , going near to my place , so we decided to ride together .

Monday morning , docked, off we got , and began the ride .  South West across Spain.

Brilliant roads, , very good driving discipline by the general public .

860 km and home .

Easy , no aches and pains .

Now, I am still hunting jobs , while enjoying my enforced holiday.

Last wednesday , a short 100km ride.

Yesterday a ride into the mountains, 160 km .

More rides to come .

Me , in UK on the Suzuki last year

My second BMW last year

The selfie at the Embalse de la Pedrera  in Spain ....   Last wednesday ...

Refulel and lunch at the Madrid Services , half way home on monday .

Yesterday's ride down the Hondon de los Frietes mountain pass ... 13 % gradient , so good , roads so smooth ...

Watch for ongoing fun rides .

In August this year , I bought another BMW , the R1100S Sport model .

The red BMW will live in Spain ,

The silver one , a bit tatty and rough will stay in UK so I can play when I'm there too .

You have to go into Asturias, West from Bilbao. Oviedo - Grado - Belmonte de Miranda (stop in at the hotel and tell him Neil from RSA suggested you pop in) - Then up over the pass.

There is a lot of excellent riding between Santander and Galicia. Good offroad stuff too, but you have to look harder for it.
Rally nut. What could possibly go wrong?

I believe so .

But living south, I dont get around there too much .

Maybe next year I'll do a tour in the area .

I'm out here in Alicante area of Spain .

We went out tuesday , did 150 odd miles , but I noticed a knocking noise at the rear , mostly on the bloody speed bumps in every village ....

I stuck bike on centre stand, and shoock and checked all the obvious ..

Wheel , swing arm , brake torque arm , shocks , tools , sub frame, exhaust ...

Note what I over looked ....

We went out again today and it was worse , and I was thinking diff , universal , bearing  Rolling Eyes  Rolling Eyes  Rolling Eyes

Got home after 130 odd miles , stuck it on stand shook and pulled and checked ... spun the wheel , nothing .

Put my hand on the hugger when standing up , AND IT MOVED !!!!

Bloody hell, checked and found one screw very loose , one slightly loose ....  Confused

Tightened it up, went off to find the speed bumps and my bloody noise was gone !!!

Yesterday we took another ride, basically inland parallel to the coast through the mountains , Alicante to Benidorm .

The roads were awesome , windy windy up to 1400m above sea down to 100m m above sea, up an down all day .

200 miles of really well surfaced roads .

Ended at the Motoring Museam in Castell de Guadalest .

Brilliant place .

Good ride , great scenery .....

Be back for a week at Christmas time so we'll be out on the back roads again !!!
