Hi Guys,

I just ordered this Steering Damper Kit on AliExpress for R1,400-00 delivered. (BMW R1200GS LC)  I have had a good look at it and read all the comments and seems great.

I would be very interested to hear how it performs.

I recently got the Hyperpro damper, with 22 different settings, but it cost me R7430.00.

I found that at around setting no 12 it feels like the same sort of resistance as the OEM part, and currently I have it on setting no 16.

Its quite weird, when you swing the bars with the OEM damper, it feels like it has almost no resistance, but when you have it in your hand, there is actually plenty.

Yes, with all the leverage from your handle bars it feels easy to move until its in your hands.

R1400, delivered is a small enough amount to risk.

The problem with same factory manufacture and even. looking identical, is that the innards are sometimes the problem.  I have a pressure pump from China.  It is identical to the Italian pump I also have.  The Chinese pump started leaking within months.  When I opened it I found that it didn't have proper rubber shaft seals around the main shaft, but more like felt washers!  I replaced these felt washers with proper shaft seals and the pump is going strong, but I know the next failure will be the rotor inside the pump.  It is paper thin compared to the one in the Italian pump.

Yes, I do agree with what you are saying here, I bought a 4X4 tyre pump 12v and it stopped pumping within a few months. I took it apart and found that the piston ring was made of black plastic, so I cut a leather one out and fitted it, been running for years now.

 I am willing to take the risk, and if it does fail I can manufacture the part on my Lathe at home easily.  But, I will let you guys know if there any problems I come across with it, thanks.

Yeah.  Like I said, R1400 versus R8000 is well worth the risk, especially if you have the capabilities to modify.

Thanks, I have been riding without one for a few years now, so it's not a safety critical component. I just want to smoothen the steering and dampen any deflections especially offroad. I have owned many bikes and I would prefer to have a steering damper than not.  My 2013 model did not come with a damper at all only from 2014 and on did they fit them as standard.

Received the Damper kit today, fitted it, tested it and it works great, money well spent with a smile!!! R1,450-00 including import duty. (Funny part is..... it came with fitting instructions from a very well know brand name on it! Imagine that!!! Lol )

Done 5,300km with it now, including a ride through the Baviaans and a ride through on the Elands River road and I have to say that I am very happy with its performance, money well spent!!!
