In Cape Town now - 4 separate DOWN Africa riders...
« on: July 09, 2018, 01:03:52 pm »
Werner - very interesting SWISS chap, Werner Willimann, https://www.facebook.com/werner.willimann?fref=ufi did South America (and parts of North America - TWICE!) mostly on a GSA 1200, until he broke the swing-arm, and has been travelling ever since on his trusty DRZ 400, most recently on a 24,000km trip down WEST Africa - that is interesting because we get a LOT of African travelers who do the East Coast, but maybe only 1-in-10 the the WEST...

His highlight? Riding 350km - no typo - 350km down a beach in Brazil, which is where he broke the swing-arm on the 1200!

He went up Table Mountain on Friday to catch up with the Japanese rider, Yukihiro  Kanemoto https://www.facebook.com/yukihiro.kanemoto.39?hc_location=ufi who was always ahead of him, both coming down WEST Africa a few weeks apart, Yukihiro on a 250 Yamaha...

11 months, 50,000km from Japan...

and then....

and then this Swiss Rider and the Japanese rider bumped into - on Table Mountain! - the Dutch guys, who had just finished doing WEST Africa!

Also in Cape Town now is the Austrian chap, who has just finished EAST Coast down to CT: www.ridingforhome.com (Tirol-to-Tafelberg!)

Nice, that so many people are transiting down Africa!

Met Werner in Namibia two weeks or so back - did you replace the rear tyre of his? All the way from Switzerland to here on one tyre - it was pretty square :thumleft:

yes, we replaced it, with ANOTHER 150 Heidenau! Despite the DRZ400 using a 130-width tyre, he loves the 150-width, AND he reckons while he still had 5 - 8,000km LEFT in his rear tyre, he would swap it out here in Cape Town, since the new Heidi would get him all the way back to Switzerland - impressive!

We also met Werner in Namibia, at Aba Huab camp. He was supposed to meet up with us at Brandberg White Lady, but never pitched up due to an unfortunate series of mishaps.

He apparently mentioned the woman with the many DRs to someone knew who I was, and got him my number. Small world
