Welcome to the forum & Bloody excellent Stuart!! :hello2:

You clearly know how to ride a bike as well, which will be a big help. How is your training going? 6-800km/day for 13 days is a lot different to a couple of extreme events, so I would imagine you are focusing on that.

Please shout if you need any help; there are a few good road books about if you look in the other threads in this racing section.

I know Peru very well so if you like ping me a private msg and I would be happy to give you a call to discuss some local context, the in's and out's, hotels whatever. :deal:

All the best with your training and be careful not to get injured between now and the EOY. :ricky:

Hey guys

So where to begin .....

Being  an avid racer and huge Dakar groupie. Knowing In the back of my mind I always  would eventually do Dakar. But always say next year........next year.........next year....
But a email late November 2017 got the ball rolling.
It was an invite from ASO to come join scuitenering and the first few days of Dakar in the bivouac.
So after some quick phone calls and begging on my knees my wife. Tickets where booked (at a price that I still battle to believe ,I could have bought a small country)
So January 1st this year I got on a plane to start a trip that begun as a child. Finally going to see DAKAR first hand
After a day of delayed flights , I eventually arrived in Lima.
Joining Kenny Gilbert, Ross Branch and Werner Kennedy

We did lost of walking about 25km a day, we did hijack some bicycle one day to get around the air force base

Meeting a few legends and doing the groupie thing

Boys going for a swim in the morning

Water was pretty cold, so a ďvaalie ď charge was required

These 2 were more interested in the new KTM than us

When than came across this CHAMP working by himself in a hanger, itís the first time I meet Donny

Here is where all the moto malle guys were getting prepped for the race

More pics of the race start and first few days tomorrow

Ps- please excuse spelling
As you see by the name  Nuts4dakar
Iím a macadamia farmer in KZN , and spelling and computers isnít my strong point

Sorry for being so quite.
Been training really hard (twice a day ) plus work plus Family.
Itís doesnít leave much time, and so stuffed after pushing hard in training so been sleeping before 8pm.

So some good news, looks like Iíll be doing Tankwa.
Going to meet Kenny in Bloemfontein and we will drive there together.
If you guys are there come say howzit , Iím also hoping to have a raffle for fundraising (just need make make sure Clive is happy with it)

Any way back to the story

Race day finally arrived.
We were all pretty excited and even found a token Aussies Trevor.
His the guy with the blue cap

Lyndon looking bling at the start

We were in the ASO , VIP section .
Itís was pretty fancy, but we left pretty early as we wanted to watch the racing in the dunes

Meet this guy on the way to the car.
My wife still complains that I look happier than our wedding photos , I choose not to answer that question

Finally in the dunes at Pisco watching racing

Iím not sure how to load videos (maybe someone can let me know)
But we meet up with Donny again
The guy standing with the blue shirt , is Bart from BSA
Donny rented from him , and I will be renting a 2017 450 rally from him.
We also went with him to Merzouga this year, and Kenny and Ross will use his service team in Dakar 2019

Moto Malle truck

2 legends Donny and Lyndon

Our rental, comes with a full roll cage and flag pole with yellow light. Was pretty squashed with 5 guy  plus roll cage

Our first night camping in the Bivouac
Right next to the generator and some V8 hilux the guys liked to rev all night

Dinner with Donny, we were like his adopted family

Riders briefing, was very quick you hardly saw Marc Coma all event

Sunset is the desert

More next time
