Hi Dogs

Anyone done a road trip from JHB to CT via the Karoo in a car (4x4) and have some advice for a noob.

I want to avoid the N1 for as far as possible and travel for 3 days.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated where to stay, cool spots to stop etc.

I suggest take the tar route between the N1 and the N12.
Parys, Bothaville,Hoopstad, etc.
You will need to go through either Kimberley or Bloemfontein for a short bit.
Further South through Koffiefontein, Luckoff and overnight at Van der Kloof Dam.
Through Colesberg down to Graaff Reinet, Willowmore, Oudtshoorn.
Then R62 all the way through the Langkloof between the N1 and N2 to Cape Town.
The roads will NOT all be good, so reduce your speed.
Catch little places like Nieuw Bethesta, De Rust for a meal...
Fill up wherever you find fuel.

Enjoy the road trip!  :thumleft:

  • Liberalism is the ideology of Western suicide.
Go west.  Kalahari , Northern Cape, past verneukpan through Cederberge etc
Mostly dirt roads and 3 days will be tough though.
As time washes by, our footprints are all for naught
The left is full of people who have been educated far beyond their intelligence
