I'm sure some of you dabble in knife making. Please post some pics of what you have turned out, your equipment, forge, anvils, etc.

I'll post some pics later of what keeps me busy over weekends.

Here are some knives and cleavers I've made, in no particular order. I started making knives by doing stock removal on stainless steel, but the forging bug has bitten, and now I mostly get my kicks out repurposing old high carbon bits of steel, forging Damascus or forging knives out of tool steel billets, old bearing races, etc.

Something I have always wanted to do

okay it's only an introduction course but looking forward to it. What worries me is that I will want to setup at home and through a bit of research I know it will be costly. So be it.

I am already planning to make my boys first knife. Sharp but robust as he is proving to be

. By the time he will be gifted it the knife will be 10 years old

Subsequent to this pic, I drilled out the silver bolster pins and replaced with brass, making the pins invisible.

If you are reasonably handy, you can make most of the tools/machines yourself, such as the belt grinder and forge. A piece of railway track will serve you until you can find an anvil.

Very nice Rossdog. Whilst I am sure I will be able to learn how to make reasonable blades I fear my lack of artistic talent will limit in creating works of art. My aim will be to make pleasing and functional blades. Making sheaths and handles may be daunting too.

Having said that, one blade I dream of making is a period correct Roman Gladius with modern steel. Does anyone have recommendations?

That takes some fair amount of time and patience and a crap load of talent and skill.

Very pretty knives and imagination. Who thinks of repurposing a Land Rover spring.
