Nice thing about these bikes is that hardly any of them look the same. So lets see em...

Heres mine

My recent changes. Frame upgrade from E model to S model.

What she looked like when I bought her:


First had to strip the whole back down


Difference in the two frames


Final product also fitted with new yellow plastics and tail decal kit.

Renthal Fatbar and billeted bar clamp risers
Full yellow plastics

LED Indicators
Trailmax Vapor (not yet fitted)

My list is so short compared to Sidetrack's

The mods for these bikes are almost infinite.

When I got mine a Clarke tank was first on the list. I think in it's previous life it was used on Tokyo tar, very roadfriendly setup when I got it.



Soon I decided to make some rad guards when I went off a cliff and the left rad was badly bent. No problems since 



Then some big headlights yeah !

Must say the fun really started with some performance mods. With the help of Runner the Athena 440 kit and a pair of Hotcams really made the bike come alive. But do the cams as a pair, with just the intake it was no where near as good as it is now with the ex cam in there.



To do on any DR -

- file down the back of the shift lever to avoid it cracking the magneto cover
- remove snorkel and open up airbox
- rejet if it's the Mikuni BSR carb
- radiator protection
- bigger tank
- buy or build case savers, stock magnesium covers are thin !
- GET A FCR CARB ASAP !!!
- I service mine every 3000 km, manual says 6000 km

I posted this a while back, but here it is again for any new DRZ owners.


I first fitted some Potaper bars with risers and some Cycra handguards.


Next was a proper bashplate - here's the original...


...and the new one...






Then some case savers...




and a SuMo front fender...




...aluminium radiator guards...



you can also see the Acerbis 16L tank here.

Fitted a GPT micro rev counter...


...and moved the ignition to the side to tidy up the "cockpit"...


Had the seat widened and re-upholstered...


Then fitted a luggage rack...

the torpedo tubes are gone

Under the rear fender extar straps for re-inforcement


Next a Dakar screen...


...and a Wolfman Enduro tank bag


Then the FMF Powerbomb header arrived...


and I built  racks to keep my panniers of the exhaust and bodywork...



you can also see the flush-mounted indicators...

...and a rear tool tube...


and front tube for tyre levers and as "highway" pegs...


That's it so far!

Oh and a 6500K blue 90/100w headlight bulb which makes one helluva difference!

Looking good, Newguy still have those white sidepanels ? LGF that front fender looks good, avaliable in black ? Pro's and cons, a sixth gear would have been nice for cruising.

SD, I think so - check the Acebis site. 6th gear - YES PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Then you could keep the standard 14/47 gearing for the technical bits and still be able to cruise comfortably.

He wanted the bike's name to start with RMZ, which I said he could get the moment I've got confirmation that his own medical aid has kicked in.

Nice! A DRZ tread

I also have a Z witch I only use to ride off-road in Moz. It is one of the nicest bikes I have ever had! 



I did not do a lot of mods, only tried to make it as light as possible to keep up with the 450's - witch it actually does... 

I however have a few questions. What sprocket sizes are the best to be used for on road riding?
And "sidetrack" can I please have a close up of your lights? It looks awesome

15-44 is best for on/off road balance

For only road use, go for 15-41

I run 15-40 for motard and its perfect...

I will add my bike & mods & stuffs to this thread soon...

I am currently running 15\48, it works in the sand but on the road I am going to kill the motor...

I did a few mods as per �??Thumper talk�?�.

Did the 3x3 air box thing
Opened the exhaust
Thread locker on the stator bolts & starter clutch
Filed the back of the gearlever
Added 10W40 full synthetic oil
Raised the handle bars by 30mm

I run a 15/43 on mine. And have no trouble riding in sand with it (in fact in sand I pull away in second so gearing is not to tall at all for sand). For slow technical trail riding you may find your self on the clutch a bit too often though.

My bike might be carrying a bit more weight? 

If I want to be able to do 120-130km/h comfortably,  I suppose 15/40 would be better?

I would stick to 15-41, the 40 I put on only because the motard wheel is quite a bit smaller than the dirt wheel. (Smaller wheel lowers the gearing)

15 44 for me, races up to 160 km h easily buy I like cruising at 110 Thanks Newguy will let you know, just keep them for me plz.

I nailed my Z the other day with my 15:43 gearing and only managed 148km/h on the gps.

The speedo is optimistic by about 9 km/h.

I need some advice on my son's DRZ please. I lacks in the power department.

The dealer took out a "device" that is nothing short of a plug from the back of the exhaust. Seems like it would have heavily throttled the poor bike - completely closed, except for a few klein gaatjies drilled into the side. The bike now sounds like it's got a 'Povic or something for free. It's actually too noisy for my liking.

He said that there is a restrictor on the carburetor that he'll attend to when the bike comes in for it's first service.

The problem: The bike pulls really nice in the bottom half of the rev range and then starts stuttering like it's running out of fuel. I haven't taken it on an open road, but it feels like it might make 80 or so k's an hour.

Need one be concerned?

I know that the UK spec bikes have a restrictor in the top of the carb. All it needs is to be removed. Check on Thumpertalk.com

And you will be amazed what a jet kit can do for the bike.

The standard exhaust is also very restrictive. Maybe look at getting a powerbomb header like Letsgofishing.
