Does using a GPS affect your brain ?

Hi WDs.
This is something i just have to get off my chest. The GPS is an amazing and very usefull tool ,it gives us freedom and confidence to explore unknown areas.BUT does it make people stupid ? When you enter a road which has a PRIVATE PROPERTY, NO THROUGHFARE SIGN and a closed gate does your inteligence not say, ok the GPS shows this road runs to oom Koos but maybe its outdated or wrong in some way ?
Well obviously in many cases NO.Ive just had to chase after the 2nd moron today and convince them that no you cant ride through my property, past the signs and closed gate just because your GPS shows a road.

Guys please we need to respect peoples private property and use our heads.Not all secondary and gravel roads on your GPS are public .
This may sound very petty but i for one have this every weekend and even more during holidays.In the present situation we as farmers find ourselves we are very aware of strangers entering our property { isnt everyone ? } and although i try real hard to be nice it gets a bit much by the 10 th time in a day.
And when im told that im wrong because the GPS says i can , i really loose my sense of humour !

Lastly i must add that so far this holiday all the morons have been in cars !

Respect people's private property. If you really want to ride the road, first go to the farmer and ask permission.

No, the device is not at fault.  The manner in which the ignorant user make use of the info the GPS produces would have been the same if the trespasser was given a detailed map with all possible routes on it.  It is simply a matter of disrespect and arrogance!  Issue and legal action should IMO rather start with the vendors that supply the digital maps for uploading in the 1st place.  They are at fault for giving incorrect information, why, they are actually sending the people on to your property.

Often a public road gets de-proclamated, meaning it is now private. So because it was on maps etc way back it might be on the GPS map.

A Private Property and No Entry sign should be respected, end of story. It's not always practical to have locks and gates.

No, the usage of a GPS does not cause brain damage.
It just makes sure you belong to the millions of lost yuppies as soon as someone in the Pentagon clicks the GPS icon on the desktop.

I also know of some roads which are drawn in some quality and usually trustworthy road maps. Like the tarmac road from Pearly Beach to Cape Agulhas or the troughfare from Gydo Pass to Tulbagh. As you might have guessed they both don't exist.

I also would love to see someone attempt the "road" through the Biedouw Valley past Uitspankraal to Die Bos (which has been in every MapStudio road atlas for years) in a City Golf. I will place my camping chair and cooler box strategically at the river crossing

In our area the original farms were huge and many of the internal roads were and still are on the maps.These farms have been sub divided over the years and now are fenced off. The road no longer runs through. So even if i didnt complain you cant actualy drive through as you would run up against boundary fences with no gates.
Ive been here 42 yrs and no new sud divisions have happened on this property , so its really old info.

Also in my instance , if you look at the road its continuous, but if you zoom in close you notice small gaps in the road, this is because it still serves as acces to some farms but no longer runs all the way through.

So far as locked gates go, again due to security concerns ie stopping at night etc we have installed grids to keep game in but allow people to just drive through.

My point is really that as with most things we all need to use our heads sometimes , technology is great but is no replacement for common sense. In the past ive been on rides with guys who are following new routes, plotted on the pc at home and they absolutely refuse to believe that a certain road is closed, private etc. The GPS shows it runs through and its their absolute right to continue through !
