Engine cuts out - Any ideas?
« on: June 11, 2012, 11:26:17 am »
Technically inclined Dogs, any idea what might be potting here? ->

On Saturday I was going down a little hill, doing about 80/90 km/h on my 2007 1200 GSA.  I shifted from 4th to 3rd and the engine cut out, locking the back wheel, causing a flurry of colourful expletives to escape my mouth.  This happened about 4 times during the ride.  Not sure if I can read a pattern yet, but it seems to happen on uneven/rocky surfaces only, not on even/tar surfaces.  It also only happens when I change gears.

Any thoughts on what could be causing this?

IMHO Fuel pump ?

sounds sort of similar to my 800 problem

(alternative loose plug wires)
Current rides: F800GS x 2

Id rather be riding my motorcycle thinking about God than sitting in church thinking about my motorcycle.

Was your fuel pump faulty/blocked?  Did you have to replace it?

I was also thinking along the line of plug wires?  Seems like it happens the bike gets a lekker skud and the clutch is pulled in?

Ek neem aan jy het gecheck clutch fluid is reg en die clutch cyclinder lek nie.
Fuel pump nuut sal jou terug sit R 5500

Also check all the connections to the fuel injection and associated. I had issues starting and idling due to a loose connector. While you have them off, spray the connectors with Contact Cleaner.

Sidestand switch mucking around with the vibration during offroad/dirtroad gets my vote.

When did u last clean the air filter? If u do lots of gravel u need to clean it often. I had a similar issue u describe and turned out filter was blocked.
