Luggage rack for sale
« on: June 12, 2012, 11:04:53 am »
Hi guys
First off let me make it perfectly clear that I am not a vendor and I have no desire to become one, hence I am putting this ad here and not in the for sale section.

I have contacts with a very good welding business who do odd jobs for me and I got them to make me a luggage rack for my 690. Due to economies of scale I had them build 5 and so I have 4 to offer to the WD if anyone is interested. They are made from 2.5mm stainless steel, come polished and with all the spacers and button cap screws to fit all years of the 690, replacing the pillion grab handles.

I used the rack on my trip to the EC bash in conjunction with my ATG dry bag. The system worked perfectly with the added bonus of creating a very effective back rest.

For sale at R 990 plus post and packaging. This is actually below cost as they worked out more expensive than we originally thought they would but I don't feel able to go over the R 1k mark.

PM me if interested

It's a friggin' motorcycle, it's not supposed to be comfortable, quiet or safe. The windnoise is supposed to hurt your ears, the seat should be hard and riding it should make you scared every now and then. Suck it up. -- Scary Gary Mc

I'm going to have to post in the for sale section.

Hi Lance,

Can your mates who do the welding also make crash bars? I alreadysent you a PM for the luggage rack? How strong is the subframe as the luggage rack is quite a bit heavier being made from Stainless Steel instead of alluminium?

The rack weighs 1.7kg. Take off whatever the handles weigh and the racks weight is insignificant I believe. In the past I have made racks out of aluminim but have had them stress fracture between the bolts after a period of time. also to achieve the same strengh the ali has to be quite thick. My racks are made from 2.5 mm Stainless Steel hence the relative low weight.

I would sugest that the amount of lugage placed on the rack needs to be carefully assest and the stronger tank mount bolts used, give the lengh of journey you are planning.
