DR 650 SE Starter Motor ('00 or later)
« on: June 15, 2012, 08:26:44 pm »
Hi fellow WDs.

I am in the process of installing a starter torque limiter in my '99 DR 650 SE. (The '98 & '99 models' engines were assembled with a solid gear.  ???  LeCap can provide some insight! )

I have purchased the torque limiter, but need a starter from a '96/'97 or '00 onwards. Prefer a late model one.

The difference is the splined shaft of the starter motor. Mine only has a splined shaft of 31mm in lenght.

Have not seen/measured a later model one, but the torque limiter has 4 cogs, and therefore the splined shaft needs to be appox 5mm longer. The end of the splined shaft also has a round section which goes into a support bearing. I would estimate this round section to be about 10 - 15 mm in length.

Need a complete starter motor from a '00 or later model DR 650.

Any help will be appreciated! :thumleft:

true...

Also spoke to Errol at Suz SA a while ago for help, when I started this mod.

No help from them...will however try my luck with the starter again..if I do not find a 2nd hand. :(

cmsnl sold me a loose armature for an LS650 , when Suzuki SA could not , but I had to HOES , but a lot cheaper than buying a complete new starter from the agents !

If all else fails , this is your fallback ?

Thanks Veemax!

Have already bought the complete unit from Suz. Got 15% discount. Still plenty moolas! :(

I did post on various threads on WD. Beside Berty, didn't get any leads. >:(

Bike not running yet. Busy with another project. Have all the spares together however! Should't be too long now! :thumleft:
