Author Topic: Wich 650: Suzuki, Honda, Kawasaki or Yamaha (Read 1335 times)

My friend Evert lives 40km from work, wants to use it for daily commuting, tar road, economy and maintenance is a factor, wants to buy new.

He is not an experienced adventure biker but he is heavy into outdoors activities available in our area, he is a fruit packhouse manager and all his business associates are farmers, meaning he spends a lot of time on farms and are going to use the bike riding farm roads.

He is not sure if he is going to end up adventure riding, but he is going to ride both tar and dirt roads. Please give advise as I cant help him, have no experience in this class.

I would consider DR650 or KLR 650 new for what he wants to do.

My Toppie het 'n 3de handse DR650 gekoop as 'n ligter en 2de bike. 2008 model......23 000kms...goeie service gehad en die ding loop soos stroop. 25k all and all. FMF pyp op en amper spotless.

Ek weet jy het gese hy wil nuut koop maar dit is nie altyd nodig nie......as jy weet wat jy/hy wil he en wakker is kry jy bargains...veral in die winter.

KLR kan ook werk....maar ek dink die Suzie het minder goed om na te kyk en kan alles en nog meer doen as wat jy ooit sou kon dink!

Sterkte met die besluit......al die fietse wat jy genoem het is goeie keuses.

40km one way gives you 80 plus the farm visits add up to 100km+ per day. For that you need a little bit of comfort as well. The Suz is excellent but no wind protection and a very hard seat....I would rather opt for the XT66R if money is not a problem, otherwise the KLR. The new KLR's have no issues - doo sorted, bad machining of barrel sorted so no oil burning and worries

I wouldn't choose a DR over an XR650 for farm riding. and neither should anyone else.. Suzuki.. really, that is what you offer.

Dit is outyds, aircooled, maar dan dit is jy. outyds en aircooled.

Die KLR het n Windshield, water cooled, en vas maak plek vir meer as n komdoom. en ry orals

Die XT660 Tenere is n beter koop as jy dink die prysverskil regverdig dit.

Die Transalp seker nog n beter koop as jy nie te ver in die boendoes wil in nie,

Vergelyk maar die DR met n XR, plaas fietsies

Big difference is that it is possible to buy a new KLR for the price of a used XT

Nee, julle is reg, niks kom ooit by n Yamaha nie, behalwe n ander Yamaha, maar jy kry nou nie meer die aircooled fietse van Yamaha nuut nie. KLR is een van my favourites, en n erg onderskatte fiets. Egte waarde vir geld.

have you owned a klr & ?
the seat is not much better, in fact i prefer the seating on the DR to the KLR.
what about the KLR's subframe???
it's pathetic suspension in comparison to the DR (both stock are, hmmm, well, not good)

every nut and bolt on the DR is of better quality,
just about everything is a better design.
having owned a KLR for 75000km and a DR for 47000km,
i feel qualified to say: the KLR is the more spoken about,
and the DR is the better (out the box)...
