While we are again having hot debates here on the Forum about lane splitting, riding in the emergency lane, filtering through stationary traffic and all sorts of other “contact zone” scenarios between cars and bikes, I would like to share this observation with you:

I was in Barcelona in April and I noticed this friendly manner in which the authorities are treating the HUGE number of scooter riders and motorcyclists in the hectic downtown traffic. Look at the photo below. In between the stop line for the cars and the pedestrian crossing, scooters and motorcycles have their own dedicated accumulation area. So, while the traffic light is red, all the filtering 2-wheelers that manage to get up front can wait in the yellow area. When the lights turn green, all the 2-wheelers can blast off first, having the open street ahead all to themselves. Very nice :thumleft:
