640 Gear Shifter oil leak....

Hi Dawgs

Have any of you ever had the anoying leak at the gear shifter on the seal between the kickstarter shaft & gear shift shaft ?

If  so, how dit you fix this  ?

The correct way is to split the casings, but can apparently be done whithout doing this ?!?! ???

Anyone.....please help ?

Yes.
There are two oil seals. I replaced both (without dismantling) but now the large one is leaking again  >:( (a few months later...actually, could be more than a year)

Oh, and please fix your spelling boo-boo in the title.

Haha !!! Only saw the boo-boo now....thanks !

How did you remove those 2 x  oils seals ? Made your own special tool ? give me a few pointers please !  :peepwall:

I did sukkel quite a bit! I disfigured a screwdriver or two........  the tricky part is to fit the new ones. I put a generous amount of grease on and pressed them in with a socket (or correct sized piece of pipe), tapping them carefully whilst ensuring they don't tilt. Despite being pretty careful, I stuffed up the small one and had to buy another one.  :dousing:

Mine needs to be done again and I am NOT looking forward to it  >:(
Dux tells me I must have a really good look at the shaft surfaces next time.
