Eat at the local places. Very cheap, nie een van ons op die trip het troon koors gekry van local plekke nie.

Huur scooters.

As jy nie 95% van die tyd gesuip is nie dan doen jy dit nie reg nie. Dis anyway so HENTIE warm jy kan HENTIE baie drink.

Stem saam.

The rules of the road are:

None!

Except if you are the biggest vehicle or object (pedestran) involved in an accident, you are GUILTY.

Therefore on a motorbike you only look out for pedestrians and people on push bikes.

Enjoy it, I did Phuket in 2002 on a 600 Steed and loved every minute of it.

Word of caution look out for No2 Woman.

But I tell you what some of them are realhookers and you would need to grab a handful to tell the difference!!!

I got no idea about Carrots's preferences so rather not comment there :peepwall:

There's some 1st class, one of a kind places for single men in Bangkok and several interesting places for couples  >:D Which category do you fall into?  :mwink: Soi Cowboy is where all the expats go for their taste of Bangkok, just be careful, always check prices for everything before you accept any drink or service. Also be wary of the Tuktuk drivers, they are past masters at manipulating tourists. The (in)famous Annie's Massage near Soi Cowboy for a soapy massage is also a favourite stop for expats.

Samui is just a mini Phuket these days, all the girly bars and shows are there, you can take a ferry to Koh Phangan (about 30mins from Samui) that's where they have the notorious Full Moon Party, not sure when it occurs in July/August and it's slightly less touristy.

I agree with the 'eat local' comment, fancy restaurants just hoik up the prices for the same food, look out for places in the back roads which are popular with the locals, they are usually reasonably priced and if the food wasn't good the locals would not be eating there.

If you hire mopeds or bikes make sure you don't hand over your passport, rather negotiate a deposit. I can't tell you how many people I've seen hobbling around with bad roasties from falling off their Honda Wave's there, not a nice way to spend your dream island holiday. Cops may ask for licenses (SA one will do) and may also fine you if you don't wear a helmet even though they will ignore the 3 up locals without lids. I usually hire a small 4x4 Suzuki Jeep, piece of crap but more than adequate to get you around the small Island. My advice would be to get the el cheapo car and ditch the moped/bike idea. The riding will never top what you can do in SA anyway.

If you're going to do the islands, consider Ko Pangang too, it's a 30 minute ferry from Ko Samui and it's less developed and more interesting.

Definitely hire scooters or even scramblers and explore the North of the Island.

In the evening the Pantip market near the harbour is an awesome cheap place to eat. Otherwise find fisherman's for the best curry in Thailand.

It is fun biking in Thailand, did two diffrent trips, the best was on Honda 200 R's out of Chang Mia, did 1500km in the North, must be in dry season.  yip, when you have an accident, its your fault, it is logical, if you did not visit and ride there, they did not have the accident, logical and simple.  Read Golden Trainagle riding for info, you do not need much but best to take own helmet and gloves, some spares, make sure they fit a new back tire.  Renting is simple, you leave your passport and away you go.  Cash, very little clothing, some spanners, tube, map (our garmin did not work), generl direction will get you where you want to go, at each intersetcion you ask, ....  all part of the fun.  We did this during the water festival, soaked through each village, little kids very accurate with a bucket of water.
