Justin
Seriously good RR and without this trip being on your bucket list, or your ability to plan military operations with loads of fine grub to cook each night, I'd never have experienced this. Thanks China! Also to Heddles for the bike prep prior to leaving and for riding sweeper and helping me lift 175kg's more than a few times when the sand monster was hungry.

The story begins last year when I had to get some exhaust work done on my car and was driving past PowerFlow exhausts in Tokai, Cape Town - I saw a KTM 950 SE in the shop. I've always loved bikes, a mate of mine rode 30,000 km's around South America on an 950 SE and it was seriously on my radar as my next ride. So I pulled into PowerFlow and briefly met Justin, the owner of the aforementioned SE. He seemed a bit of a chop really, but thats a story for another time!

I ended up buying BaasAttie's superb SE with 11,000 Km's on it and have been in love with "the cure for common sense" ever since. C'mon boys, a freakin 100bhp dirt bike. Are you yanking my todger, how much fun could one man take in a days riding before pigeons fly outa his ears?
:blob6:

I've never done much technical off-road riding and have sat at this desk working for 3 years now, only moving for food & water. I've been here so long my triceps have turned to 'bingo-wings'.. seriously. So when Justin suggested I joined him and Heddles for the 'Road to Hell' I thought it was another case of middle aged, flabby, white males posturing about tough, African roads and I'd doddle through it on my 175 kg bike like a flea racing over a camels balsak. I mean, how difficult could it be?

This first video is a short sample of more to follow. I finally worked out how to use this video edit suite and will punch the others out ASAP. Thanks for all the comments and support so far.

We'd arrived at the base of the Road to Hell in the Richtersveld, set up camp and walked down through this ancient, dry riverbed - I don't reckon water's flowed here in the amounts in took to gouge out this valley for hundreds of years. Anyway, I'm pretty exhausted and Justin starts this Birchy / Jarvis ramble that was just TOO GOOD to pass up.
If you're easily upset by a little colourful language then this video's not for you. This was a boy's weekend and no offense is meant. The sound's a little soft so turn up your volume and the noises Heddles is making in the background are all about how much Justin's plan would "disturb the wildlife". I like Heddles.
This "Huge speakers with sub's" become a bit of a theme - along with "Sexy Time" but you'd need to see the teabagging pics for that.

hey oo7

It must be your favorite picture because the front wheel of that bloody lovely SE is poking in from the right hand side, ne?  :ricky:

Here's the 2nd video. Staring into the sun from Base Camp to the start of the RTH.

Agree with 007 - stunning shot - something you'd expect from the Mars' Rover

It's all your fault if more middle aged and unfit DS riders might attempt the RTH in future

Modernday rock art, as practiced by many bushmen over the years.

You see it in cities, townships, bridges and caves all over

The fact that we can understand what is written should not diminish from its special spiritual significance and the self-induced trance-like state of the artists

Matriek getuigskrif 1979: ........... is 'n vriendelike seun met volop selfvertroue. Hy tree soms vreemd op. Die skool se beste wense vergesel hom.
