Thanks for the report Zonkelnut.

Was wondering how you managed to get to Zanzibar & back in 10 days, and still have time to take photo's!

Great one  8)

My sincere respect, want to do it! Now my wife wants to do Zanzibar next year for our 10 year wedding aniversary (please note 10 whole years she deserves a medal) what if she flies and I ride, I like that idea?

Guys,

Forget the "Carne de passage"

Most border posts in Africa have never heard of this document.  We took some 5 proto-type vehicles into Lesotho for altitude testings and fuel vapour leakage tests.  That is taking a vehicle from 850m to 3500m in a short time frame, wanting to see how fuel expands, where vapours exit fuel tanks and how fuel tanks expand and contract.  We had the "Carne de passage" and the border official looked at it and shook his head, said we must pay up as those are not valid in Lesotho.  We showed him the country list but he would not budge.

It is cheaper just to fill in and pay at the border.  Not only that but if they take the "Carne de passage" off of you, you loose all that money held in trust.

Zonkelnut, it is nice to know that our neighbours are still friendly and looking to take our strong Rands.

Welshie,

That sounds like a good idea.  The Mrs can fly into Dar and you can ride up and pick her up at the airport or a hotel and then catch the ferry to Zanzibar.

I second that idea. Mrs Welsh will love it

don't take the bike over to Zanzibar though. Apparently you can rent a cheap 250 for less money than it takes to put your bike on the ferry

Hey Zonkel, maybe one day we will meet halfway in Africa somewhere. Good to see that you are enjoying the Capo and your rides and that I can at least look at some nice pix.

Groetnis.

Well Cane Rat. I am so impressed (with my limited off-road experience) with the Capo, I am thinking of taking the Capo on my trip in August to Kaokoveld instead of the trusty TransAlp. And that will be FortyZA (GS), his brother (GS) and me with Capo.

I can not tell you how easy it made the route. I did worry about the reliability, being top-heavy, etc., but I found exactly the opposite. But those floating disks!   Dam noisy. Mine floats and no more disks.

I have been to Aprilia and they say there is a mod out that fix the noise. I will see Tuesday what it is. And apparently you do not loose braking performance. I will let you know after Tuesday. I am also going to put a 16 tooth sprocket on.
