Flex, don't do it!

I bought one of those 17liter clarke tanks.

Clarke make a 14l tank for the E model and a 17l tank for S and SM model - the tanks are attached in very different ways.

What ettiene did, and what I did, was buy a 17l (SM) tank and make a plan to fit it to the E model bike. It fits and all, but not properly and I have lost the use of my choke. Also fitting radiator guards was a mission and taking the tank and plastics off is a serious PITA. So I am going to buy a Clarke 14L tank and sell my 17L tank for like R800.

I am not sure if Etienne mounted his differently or what, but this hasn't worked as well for me.
Hey MildDog - very interesting & thanks for the heads up!
You say yours is a E model? Mine is a S model - I wonder if thats not what makes the diff?
If so your tank could fit my S model maybe ?
Could I have first dibs please ? I really can't afford anythting remotely new .....   :-\
Etienne - any opinion on the E / S issues in terms of fitting etc?

Flex; the mounting points on the frame are different for the S vs. the E model bikes. So my tank will fit perfectly onto your bike. When I get paid next month you have first dibs. We will negotiate a reasonable price :) If you are interested.
I crash test all of my safety gear. Do you?

E and S tanks can be made to fit any DRZ if you don't mind a bit of fiddling in the garage. I found on my S that the Clarke 17l had the best fit and finish. Also tried a IMS but it leaked and you cannot use the last liter or so of fuel. The best of the E tanks was the Acerbis, it looked about twice as thick as the other aftermarket units. Well made.
