2012 KTM 690 ENDURO R - COMMON PROBLEMS
« on: August 17, 2012, 09:28:48 am »
Hi Guys,

I am departing in a months time on a 5000km trip to Arusha and would like to know what some of the common problems have been that you guys have encountered with the 2012 model. I would like to prepare as far as possible for these faults that may potentially occur on the bike.

I will really appreciate any advice regarding this.

Kind Regards

Drew

I've had mine for 3 months now, the rear indicator lights broke off 4 times at the standard mounting spot. I had them moved higher up on the mud flap and removed the bottom section that holds the number plate. My radiator cracked open on my last trip at the bottom right mounting spot, KTM replaced it with a new one. Check all the bolts on the bike, the bolts on my handle bars were loose and I actually lost one on my first ride after 100km. The bike has 2100km on the clock...

I hope that helps?

Subframe / fuel tank mounting bolts?
The three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40 and a hammer.  If it moves and it shouldn't, use the duct tape.  If it doesn't move and it should, use the WD-40.  Otherwise use the hammer.

Hi

I've just bought the 690E last week and was told that there is a small cleanable fuel filter that needs perodic cleaning in the fuel lines located under the air box.

I still need to strip and find the exact spot where it is.

Good luck. I rode a new R and found the suspension to be extremely hard. possibly setup but a very nice bike.

Replace the subframe bolts, before you leave.....

I broke mine. See thread on Auxilary tanks for 777, I gave him all the info there.

Cheers.

Seems like alot of problems with the electronics on 690's...has this been fixed on the new models?

Apart from that it seems like a great bike!

My 2012 690 was perfect for 1500km until one day it would not idle when reaching operating temp, KTM replaced the coil under warranty - no issues since - except for the rear tire that wears off quite quick!

Quick note, replace the bottom tank bushes. They wear out and cause the top bolts to break. I cannot remember what material was used for the bushes when we had made up (I do know it was some hard wearing nylon).

I do not know if other bikes do this, but the tank cap leaks. Take it off and seal up with a oil resistant silicone.

New problem I experienced on the Pongola 500 this weekend : bike idling way to high, when you excellerate it starts to cut out (no more than 100 km/h in top gear).

take a spare tyre !!! dont think a tyre will make a 5000km trip i get about 3000km out of a nob if i go REALY slow. in jhb not even close but then its robot to robot wheelies  :o

im on 15000km and no major problems so cant really comment in that department. only had a loose sensor wire on airbox that caused the fi light to come on now and again

i also use it for adv trips and if you dont want iron butt you need to upgrade the seat. either another seat or i cut a piece out of a rubber sleeping matrass that i strap to the seat.
