My 40k service is coming up. I bought brake pads from Midas. Do you think the BMW dealers would be willing to fit non-BMW spares?

Where are you situated? Is your bike still under warrantee?

Perhaps consider taking your bike to Justin at Motorrad Tech in Boksburg - very good service from him and his team - prices are reasonable and they stamp the service record etc. to continue the service history.

Indeed!

I got Lump back Friday week ago - 40k service - R2500 plus VAT - goes like a dream & pulls like a train again - excellent work indeed!

Basically R2850.

My 2009 1200GS 40 000km service at Bavarian Motorcycles (Accredited BMW dealer ) was R4300 including VAT and a Metzeler rear tyre.  Basically R3000.  Not a huge saving.  In fact, if you consider the Bavarian loan bike, probably cheaper.

That is a good price!!

I was quoted anything up to R4000 excluding a tyre by the various dealers I contacted....

Just had a 40k service done and they had to replace the fuel pump electronics for a total cost of R5186.00.

After this I will consider doing my own services except for the next major one which I think comes at 80k if I'm not mistaken.

Its a pity that i only cam accross this thread now.
I recently got BUTT F%$^d by Auto Alpina for my 40k service.
The joke is that they wanted to charge me R1000.00 SA rands to do a diagnosis on my bike so they could tell me why my spot is blown!!!! :eek7:

Electronics or complete pump?

Had my 40k service done at Motorrad Tech. Cost-wise not much cheaper than authorised dealer, but this includes tuning the bike on a dyno. Bike is richer and now goes like a demon. This is the best my bike has ever performed, and I will take my bike to them again anytime.
