My friend Koos v N and I decided to ride up the highest peak in southern Africa - Thaba 'Ntleyana in Lesotho in June 1975, not done then by bike. He had a Yammie DT360, but all I had was a CB350 with trails rear tyre and slightly lower gearing. We rode the bikes up Sani, but got snowed in the next day. The following day we went travelling on the gravel roads around Sani, it still not being suitable for going up the mountain. This was great fun, until you hit a long stretch where there was ice underneath the snow. You had to sit perfectly still, controlling the slide without touching brake or throttle until there was grip. I don't recall either of us falling. We tried going up Thaba next day, but the Honda just couldn't make it - gearing, clearance and torque were just totally unsuitable. End of our attempt - a few guys on XR200s did it a couple of years later, I think.

1. Going up!
2. On top of Sani

Going through the Baviaans passes, through a bend I lost the back and ended up putting a hole in the oil filter casing. Two more metres and we would of become mountaineers. Kept the bike on its side to save the oil and Pratleys Steeled the broken part. 40 min later we were cruising again!  :ricky:
