The ranger is holding the puffy towards the camera so point of reference is a bit skewed. Still looks pretty hefty :o

Quite agree, Ri.

I've seen some big puff adders in E. Tvl and Gaboon adders in N. Natal but the girth tends to exaggerate the approximated size.

Basically the same as fishermen posting smallish catches or dare I say it, those wishful thinking fellows displaying undersized courting tackle.  >:D

Would suggest contacting Johan Marais for his opinion.

Ben with his 1,72m moz spitting cobra. Largest one I've ever seen. Apparently they can get up to 1,8m long. Must've been quite a fight.

Ester Monday I was clearing a runway of animals late afternoon on a game farm for an incoming flight, about half way down came across a snake that I later ID'd as a Mole Snake - innitially thought it might have been a Black Mamba, but wrong shaped head & neck - I was driving a Polaris Side-by-Side game viewer and the snake was "zig-zigged" across in fron of us, and in the "zig-zag" shape, it was as long as the width of the Polaris - having a 5-year old on the vehicle, we were hesitant to take a chance, but we measured from where it was laying - a convenient flower by it's head helped, so it must have been close to 2m in length and about 10cm diameter..... I couldnt get my phone out quickly enough.......!

Saw a Forrest cobra this weekend while cycling ...at least 1.8m....nothing more to get your heartbeat up when coming down a hill at speed and the snake is laying like a speedtrap over the road.

Found this bastard (Moz Spitting Cobra) in the garage this morning.
Whilst trying to coach it to fookof, it suddenly just disappeared.
The wife shat her pants.
The gardener is still running.........

Then this afternoon, on our usual walks, the dogs went ballistic.
The land-missile (Cairo) found it first, with the Steamtrain (BOO) giving backup.
All was fine and under control, until this 1 meter specimen started spitting and lunging.

Did not end well for the snake.

It appears that this dude (or lady) is living in a hollow under our front porch.

It is a Black Racer, a non-venomous constrictor that preys on frogs, lizards, mice, etc. So it is completely welcome to live there, as long as it stays out of the house, and out of the back yard where our Jack Russel, Maggie, will definitely kill it  :xxbah:

I got out my good Nikon camera, and using the long lense and creeping forward on my belly I was able to get quite close and get these pics for y'all.

Young enough to know I can, old enough to know I shouldn't, stupid enough to do it anyway.
