Cape Wolf Snake - Witsand Kalahari Nature Reserve, Northern Cape.

The Wolf snake is a small, harmless species, but be careful - they resemble the venomous Stiletto Snake. They mainly live underground, so it's quite rare to see them.

Fork-marked Sand Snake - Witsand Kalahari Nature Reserve, Northern Cape

Awesome and harmless little snakes, extremely fast over short distances. On the last photo you can clearly see the "tuning fork" pattern on its head that gives this snake its name.

Mole Snake (Black Morph) - Witsand Kalahari Nature Reserve, Northern Cape.

The meanest of the harmless species, Mole Snakes can deliver a very painful bite that can often need stitches. If you're bitten by a Mole Snake it's important to still get medical attention because although they are non-venomous their bite can easily lead to secondary infection.

And as if this thread is not nightmarish enough, this is posted on the WTF thread !

Worst nightmare ever !

Release the Kraken!

So, early this morning my FIL (which also stays on the farm) phones, frantically warbling something about a "moerse slang!!!!!!"

I grab the required relocating tools, long braai tongs and burlap sack, and head over to his house.
As I head over to where the snake was last seen, I hand him my phone and ask that he gets ready to take photos of whatever type of snake it might be, as soon as I have it under control.

The snake in question was a rather large Aurora, which was easily caught.

I turn around, snake in hand to pose for a thread photo..................only to find that I have been alone all the time. Bloody outoppie is shit scared of snakes and took his leave, phone in hand, quite urgently.

Snake was successfully released back into nature.................alone.
