This one ignited the love I have for gravel today... Such good memories!

My first bike in 1986 was a previously loved Honda XL 185 for which I paid about R600. Knobbly tires contributed toward a few near death experiences when the roads were wet or a taxi drivers decided to spontaneously change lanes on Hospital Bend. Two years later I sold it for R600....I loved that bike ;D

My first bike was a 1989 Honda CBR250R 4 stroke. Bike did 18,500rpm.. :o. But 'power' only started at about 11,000rpm.. ;D. Eventually blew the head gasket and couldn't get any spares.. Kept it for a few years and sold it. Bought a Yamaha RD350 2 stroke in that time, biggest piece of shit I ever owned. Cost me a lot of money. I eventually sold it and the motor seized the day after the buyer took it.
Trust that little voice in your head that says 'Wouldn't it be interesting if...'; And then do it.

As you said, hardly any movement.   :eek7:    It took me a while to get use to them.

The one "bike", (as it was incredibly underpowered), I see is missing so far and few others seemed to ride in the early 1970s is the Honda SS50.
I had one (a 1972 model, which I rode to school in Std. 9 and 10, 1973 & 1974, and even during my first year of university until I turned 18).
Sorry that the picture quality is so bad, but the klikkity-klack camera I had in those days was not that brilliant.
My friends on their two-stroke Suzukis and Yamahas laughed and said I looked like a "monkey on a stick"!! :imaposer:

Not mine in the pic.

1980`s PW80. I was 8 or 9 then. My boet had the TS 250 and our parents had a Merc parked in the garage that served as our personal fuel station  ;D

We lived in a small mining town called Penge. Everybody had bikes and nobody had helmets.. Those were the days  :ricky:

Thinking about it now, I don't recall ever changing a filter on that bike, ever. Just gooi juice. I rode that bullet proof bike until I was about 14.
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.

Mine was a Yamaha dt50 lc just like this one.
We were in std 7 and a mate of mine had the red one.
We were inseperable and went everywhere on those things!
We are blessed to share the biking fraternity together!
Do it now - tomorrow you are dead!

Bought my first bike second hand for R250 cash in 1987. Suzuki PE175 with no papers. It had a vicious 2stroke power band, and it was a lot of fun!

This was also my first offroad bike.   :)  The first time I rode it turned out to be the best & worst day of my starting to ride my own bike life.  It was great, cause off we went to Durban Deep race track in Roodepoort, for those of you who can remember and that rode that track.  I learned the same lesson that day about it's unbelievable power band, when coming down the "chicken run", deciding to give it a little gas and let the back wheel dance through all the small whoops, but only to see the bikes front wheel lurch into the air, I ended up on my arse and the bike went for it's own ride for another 50m and came to a crunching flip upside down.  It had new mirrors which were buckled like a peeled banana, handle bars bent, front mud flap askew, esihhh, it was painfull to see my brand new pride in joy, in very second hand condition   >:(
Mine - BMW 1200 ADV, KTM 450 RR; HUSABERG TE 300; Goes 320 Quad
Missus - BMW 650 GS.

1978 Honda Chaly, Upped from 50cc to 150cc. Needed a new piston head every two weeks for so - You've never felt 100km/h until you've felt it on 10 inch wheels.
