Why we do it.

Following with great anticipation the next installment form MetalJockey on their Angola ride, I checked ADV earlier. I found a post by 1NightOwl (Another epic storyteller) that reads as follows:

"Adventure is the difference between the expected and the unexpected, the planned and the unplanned. We hone our skills, prepare our equipment and plan our routes. And gradually we raise the bar as our appetite for risk develops.

Sometimes we get lost. Sometimes we get stuck. Sometimes we get hurt. Sometimes our equipment fails. Itâ??s part of the game, part of the challenge, much of it within our control.

We pit our ingenuity against nature, knowing that when things are bad, they have to get better eventually- even the worst road has a beginning and an end. This is what keeps us going, because the surest way to improve a bad situation is to get out of it."

I like it alot. It captures the essence of riding DS for me.

It's a friggen motorcycle, it's not supposed to be comfortable, quiet or safe. The windnoise is supposed to hurt your ears, the seat should be hard and riding it should make you shit your pants every now and then. Suck it up. -- Scary Gary MC

I used to be indecisive, but I'm not so sure anymore

Where I hope to be in a few thousand km - although the heart's there already, the skills are still playing catch-up.
I do not think that dying is a good idea.
Living doing something that you love is a good idea.
Living until you die is a good idea. If living happens to kill you it means you made a mistake, but we are human, and humans make mistakes, so go for it, enjoy it, live until you die, rather than not living for your whole life.
