Hi Laurika.
You have some great pictures and really captured the spirit of the bash. It was great meeting you in person albeit very briefly. You covered a good distance for a long weekend.
Well done.

Hi Oetie,

It was good to meet you (at Kroonstad with Tweets & Laurika) - pity it was brief...

Hope to see you at next-year's bash !

OK, so here's my first attempt to write some text and upload pictures - let's hope it works...

(Let's see if the first 2x pics and text come out right, then I'll continue with the post...)
Firstly, I have to apologise for no decent photos – I lost my camera(along with some lekker photos) on the second day on the way to the bash !

Having pitched our tents on Friday evening, our testosterone and faith in our ‘gadgets’ led us to believe that we were invincible and the week-end was about to BEGIN…
While enjoying our braai after the obligatory song: “Hoe; Hoe; Hoe; Hoe - Hooo Letta Dog Sout…” we were blissfully unaware of the rain that would bucket down later that night. Some of us survived, some were washed out and others pitched their makeshift tents under the trees due to some poles ‘going A.W.O.L.’
The Calm before the storm…

Sunday morning was so cold that even our breath iced up inside our tents – but hey, us dogs survived.

A beautiful picturesque ride from Himeville (via Loteni) to Nottingham Road reminded me of my day’s at a farm school in the Drakensberg. Although the views were all new to me, there was that familiarity that the Drakensberg foothills have. What awesome weather to be out riding in paradise…

da PEEg with a soul-mate at Rawdon’s Brewery in Nottingham Road on the way back…

OK – OK – OK  (I KNOW it’s not dirt)!   But it was one more pass to play on, on the way to the numerous dirt passes in the Memel district…  de BEER’s pass  (Not da PEEG’s pass)

Oh yes, having had my first puncture repair on the way to the bash in Aliwal North, here I was offered the opportunity to convert my tubeless to a ‘tubed’ front wheel. Considering that I was able to do the repair in such style(in the courtyard of the Memel Hotel and having numerous unsolicited offers of coffee)  da PEEG decided to strike up a ‘wheelie’ formal Victowian pose…

Laurika & I managed to have an enjoyable return leg of the trip to ‘the big city’ taking on bits of dirt here-and-there- wherever they could lead us in the general direction of home…

Thanks to Tweets and Moondog for such GREAT support and willingness to go the extra mile in some very ‘trying circumstances !!!

Our trip took us anti-clockwise around Lesotho. The magenta route was the trip to the bash. Blue was the route around Rhodes and Tiffendel. Green was the return route home.  Our trip was basically 6.5 days with real great company.

Winburg Hotel

Stoffel on his Beast

Stoffel and Grandson Jaydon. This little man is BIKE CRAZY and shadows “Oupa” Stoffel everywhere.

Gypsy Jay on his BMW 650 Dakar “in disguise”

Rodlau and Laurika

Rodlau on his KLR

Da Peeg on his 1150GSA

Filling Up at Excelsior’s only fuel pumps.

Lunch at Blackrock Hotel, formally Thaba Nchu Sun hotel.

Yours Truly

Moondog, Da Peeg, Gypsy Jay

Rodlau , resting up. (serious gentleman this )

Stoffel and “Antie” Stoffel (Bets) She road along in the Vito, back-up .Made place for grandson Jayden

“eL” Normal helmet hair etc.

Jayden with Ouma & Oupa Stoffel.

Jaydon with Oupa Stoffel at the Caledon River bridge. He views the road “first” behind the GSA screen

All of us at the Caledon River Bridge east of Smithfield heading to Rouxville.

My Steed. Awesome machine

Gypsy Jay

Rodlau

Moondog, with is mascot  bringing up the rear. Thanks buddy for all your driving with the Vito and trailer, to ensure we have a lekker trip.

The Snow Valley venue hall, on Friday night.

Some mighty tall and big owes are also dogs. This dog chatting up MJ.

Jules , other & Li (Now PE “hone”) Lekker to see you guys again.

Our residence during the bash week-end. 5km from Snow Valley.

Jaydon & Oupa Stoffel. These two did some serious bonding this weekend. How lucky can a a brakkie be to have such a lekker Oupa dog.

Tweets and Jaydon and our way to Rhodes.

Jayden

Rhodes valley with the town in the distance other side the green patch.

Stoffel and Jayden , on the way up to Tiffendel. Lekker Stoffel.

Water fall in the distance, on the way up to Tiffendel, where the incredible steep Zig Zag pass is. “looking west”.

Tiffendel Area, Oupa Stoffel and Jayden. Note the snow line.  Temp at 15h00 was 5 deg C.

Tweets

We met this couple , Louis and Grieta on their 990 ADV, here high up in the mountains. This is their first WD outing and bash. Baie welkom julle. Mag julle ons forum en mede DS riders geniet.

View from Tiffendel looking west.

Jaydon, “On top of the World” Oupa, dis koud hierbo, maar mooi

Beautiful country, as seen from Tiffendel

Jayden learning to ride behind Oupa. With all the standing Oupa had to do, on serious technical sections. Jaydon got kinda in the way, up-front. In any case he has to learn to ride pillion behind oupa, because soon he will be too big to sit up front.  (problem now is he falls asleep on the tank when things get boring. On the back he cant do that anymore.)

Laurika on the move.

Pee stop for Jayden.
2 & Half Men

Tenahead Info + some pic’s

Laurika on top of Naude’s Nek pass.

Stoffel and Jayden

Myself

Awesome country heading toward Mount Fletcher

Just had to give Jayden a feel for the real size of a grader.

Da Peeg waiting for us. Lower Lotheni area

Scenery of the Lower Lotheni area.

Local traffic before Notthingham Road. Don’t sukkel with this traffic.

At Notthingham Road, looking south, from where we had come - Heaven. Gypsy Jay eager to get going. He was running low on tea, at this stage

DaPeeg and “L” enjoying an ale, at a brewery outside Notthingham Road.

North of Ladysmith, I entered a sharp bend with a fine shale surface a bit “hot”. Decided to do emergency braking but failed to stop in time. This is the braking streeeeeeeeeeeeep.

I came to a halt, inside the hole, and fell over to the right.  Picked the bike up and rode it spin, spin out of the hole.  Spectators were soon to arrive to see the action. No damage except the ego.

Yours Truly on top of Normandiens Pass

Da Peeg doing tyre repairs at the Memel Hotel.

First real long run with this bike. What an absolute pleasure it is. I’d say better than the 1200’s , for sure.

The (S)quad.

Thanks to everyone that came along on this trip, to make it such a wonderful memory.
