Chorse from Pretoria and I from windy Port Elizabeth decided that this bash would give us the perfect opportunity to do some wild trout stream angling and so plans were made.
Wednesday the 19th arrived and we were off to Lupela Lodge. I tell you that the internet does not do this gem of a hideout justice anyway after some boring dirt roads we arrived at the spot and the timing was so good we were within minutes of each other.
After quickly off loading we went to drop a fly into the spectacular stream and Chorse pulled first blood and I only had two knocks, dark settled and off for a braai we went.
The next morning we were up before the chickens and loaded the bikes and off into the mountains we rode following the stream and wow the fun began, I picked up my biggest wild rainbow which measured over 30cm and plenty smaller ones
Lunch plans had us ride Joubert pass into Lady Grey, while we were chilling at the little tavern GP arrived and with great relief joined us at Lupela. Chorse gave GP a spare rod and down to the streams we went where GP caught his first two trout ever and he’s now hooked.
Friday morning we loaded up and off to the bash we went with a terrible wind and rain here and there we finally arrived at the bash and quickly scouted the field to find the spot with the best wind protection which had to be at the end of the field but an excellent choice after seeing the other dogs battle.
The ablutions were clean and maintained all the sh1t the dogs could give and hot water was never short, the braai packs were freaking awesome and seeing old friends from previous bashes was the highlight of the trip.
I was too cold and had no ambition to outride on Saturday. Sunday was on us too quick and down to Rhodes Chorse and myself went, we had plotted to do the Bidstone pass but I disappointed Chorse by not wanting to take the chance after the hail and rain on Friday and I now regret not doing it but I will go and do it in the near future.
We left Rhodes on Monday morning to spend Monday fishing Lupela and leaving for home on Tuesday. We left on an extreme high after excellent fishing and bashing.
A big thanks to all those involved with the organising of the bash and the farmer brown for letting us all tear up his field.
Now for the photos and some info on each one, enjoy.
