Groenkloof Ride Report
I started at 9:15 from Riversdale. New tyres (knobbly Heidenau) on front and back so did a short little dirt road to ride them in.
Then I slipped over the Garcia pass an realized I FORGOT my camera at home. I turned off to Van Wyksdorp on to Ladismith (dirt) From Ladismith to Calitzdorp. On Calitzdorp there was NO green petrol so had to find the co-op. My favourite activity, riding in town with the bike (not).
At Co-op I phoned the mobile map of South Africa (ChrisL) to find out where the Groenkloof road is. He pinpointed it exactly with a few alternatives.
I took the Groenkloof road and what a pleasure of a road. It is extremely beautiful.
I passed a snake (long brown one) and as I passed it launched at me to bite me. Luckily it missed. I was as cool as a cucumber.
I saw three giraffes, plenty of antelope, the Groenkloof dam, the Visarende Angling Club private camping spot, the Swartberg Private Game estate.
Saw a huge tortoise. Had lunch at Wilgewandel and took tar home: Oudsthoorn, Calitzdorp, Ladismith, Riversdale.
What a lovely ride. Will do Groenkloof again for the pictures.
