The B@STARDS tried to steal my bike!
« on: April 27, 2006, 01:25:06 am »
I work in Westminster in an area where there are loads of government offices and political party headquarters, so the place is absolutely infested with CCTV cameras. There are also quite a lot of pedestrians all day long and still they have the nerve to try and steal the bike in broad daylight. Fortunately the alarm stopped them - 2nd bike I had which was saved by the alarm. Now I'll have to replace the ignition and I hear it's pretty expensive. B@STARDS!!!!!

So this sh#t does not only happen in Sarf Efrika!
Glad to see they never got your scoot, do you use a disc lock as well? Good visual deterent. There is one made by Xena with a built in alarm as well.
If you can keep your head in the midst of all this confusion, you don't understand the situation!

I have 2 disc locks but don't use them. The one's rubbish - you can open in in about 10 seconds and the other one I don't use because I'm a lazy sod. Also, dropped previous bikes too many times because I'd forgotten about the damn thing. Got a yellow reminder thingy now so I'm fast running out of excuses.

Crime is bad in some areas of France too. Bike theft is not just a SA problem. :( My insurance stipulates that I have to use a disc lock or approved alarm / immobalizer or approved chain. I was thinking of the disc lock option myself. Or myabe alarm / immobilizer. Or maybe chain. :dontknow: I feel a new thread coming on....

Does anybody have the website for those disk locks that is also a left foot peg? You take the footpeg off and use it as a disk lock, and as you get on the bike, your foot slips because there is no foot peg. So you have to take the disk lock off. Something like that. I had a look at it a few months back but did not save the link.

I would like to have one, if anyone knows, submit it.

Sorry to hear Lootch

I'm going to assume you're serious - the other one's to unlock the seat.

Zonkelnut, I know which one you're talking about but can't remember the name. Try a search on MCN's website.

Bastids!

Glad the bike is still there. Better to spend some bucks on repairs than to loose the whole bike and go through an insurance claim.

Still not nice.

we dont have that problem here in africa - the bastids cant balance a bike, and even if they can, the gears confuse them.
if someone steals your bike here you can be sure a fat whiteman is behind it.

Ans yes we do have that problem in Africa...  I've had two bikes stolen, first my Katana 750 MKII, about 10 years ago, and last year my BMW Dakar, both were stolen by the darker skinned type... and now they're into vandalising too... see my Lesotho report in the Ride report section
