Final drive vent - How effective to keep water out?

The new final drive vent was reintroduced in 2010 (previously use in the 1150GS's) probably to lessen the chance of pressure build-up in the final drive and less stress on the seals. However I am concerned if the little rubber breather will effectively keep water out when doing deep water crossings. Has anyone done a mod by connecting a breather pipe to this system and moving it as high as the airbox? The vent is #8 in the parts fiche picture attached.
