Poor Form Cape Dogs
« on: October 18, 2012, 11:14:54 am »
My mate Outthere is currently spending a few days in Cape Town with his wife.

He posted a thread in Planning a Ride asking Cape dogs for help with routes in the Cedarberg as he has no idea where to go.

http://www.wilddog.za.net/forum/index.php?topic=109174.0

The response?

One reply from a Gauteng based WD suggesting a general direction he could take. Good on you AntonDP  :thumleft:

Not even one reply from a Western cape Dog.

Sorry to say guys but this is piss poor. Surely all you Cape dogs know routes in the area or have gps files you could have sent him?

I hope dogs who ask for KZN routes are not treated like this.

And btw, Outthere doesn't know I am posting this, he'll probably be pissed with me for doing it  :-[

Fok sorry...

Ride to Oasis, eat steak, drink beer, ride around, come back to Cape Town.

All the roads are lekker. My pleasure.

But I am sitting on my BB at present. I will send him a few routes tomorrow with GPS routes from my laptop and even buy the oke a few beers.

How is that? Are we forgiven?

Buy a Map Studio road atlas South Africa.
It will get you to the Cederberg and back even on small dirt roads.
And it does not have batteries that go flat and it is also generally rather difficult to break.

Once used a bit you don't even have to worry about theft any more.
You can get a replacement for the equivalent of three or four beers or so at every CNA. Same applies for annual updates.

Most legal / public routes are in there.
A few additional ones such as the Wupperthal 4x4 and Uitspankraal & the Doring River crossing (found in older issues) are signposted well on site and you can also find half a million related ride reports here on the forum.
Or you get the Slingsby for the Cederberg which is for sale at every watering hole or accommodation place in and around the conservancy.

GPS is for wussies.
Prefabricated route uploads too.
Almost like doing the ride with the mouse on YouTube ::)

As hy vanaf Oasis se rigting terug ry Ceres toe moet hy via Katbakkies ry, die pad neem jou na die R355 en vandaar draai links en na so 1km moet jy hier stop vir 'n dop

Easier to kak you out  ;D

He left Cape town this morning and was on the way to Cedarburg when I phoned him a couple of hours ago.

I am sure he will still have a good ride without local knowledge  :thumleft:

He must just ask Gerrit at Cederverg Oasis, he has all the info printed in his head about the area  :deal:

I never go to planning a ride. I ride, therefore I am.

I look at maps and head in the general direction, far more exciting.

Sorry I didn't phone, mail or post something here.

I hope your friend will be able to handle the wide, empty spaces without guidance, company or possibly a back-up bakkie. Hell, now he even (shock, horror!!) has to plan his own route!  :o

Just, for the love of god, beg him not to stop in any remote places in the Cape.
