Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates) to Sweihan, Al Ain and Jebel Hafeet
The long awaited Winter has arrived, the 990 has been standing dormant for 8 months with only the occasional trip around the suburb at night to keep the battery charged. With daily temps in the mid 40’s to 50’s, it has been most unpleasant, especially for any form of biking.
So I had this planned trip around the UAE planned during a long weekend that didn’t work out for various reasons.
On Friday morning I decided that a short one day ride was on the cards and off I went.
I left Abu Dhabi on route to Sweihan and Al Ain.
Green Highways in the desert.
Speed Cameras everywhere, check the brake lights.
I sat with this guy for about 120km, average speeds between 160 and 170
Arriving in Al Ain, bery nice and extremely well maintained Desert Oasis.
From here I left for Jebel Hafeet
At 11.7km long, climbing 1,219m, with 21 corners and a surface as smooth as glass, it's little wonder that the road up and down Jebel Hafeet, in Al Ain, is regularly voted as the world's greatest drive.
It is rated as one of the top 10 driving passes in the world and a, awesome experience to drive. Had my helmet cam on during the down trip but having issued getting the 740Mb video converted, so I will include some other video for your info.
Arriving at the top, not much there, seems like a bit of an anticlimax when you get there and you find this.
At least there is a little coffee shop of sorts so you can have a drink and a rest.

From here it was back to Abu Dhabi
You will see this all along the way, planted trees and street lights for 140km. Geld se baas.
Amateur Desert Driving Site, Lovely.
Sat with this guy for a while, ave speed of 160 to 170
Then with this guy at 170 plus on desert tyres rated for 80km/h, madness.
Check out the intersections, all this in the middle of the desert.
Almost home I stopped off for some juice, 990’s are thirsty at speed.
This was an enjoyable ride, I just cannot begin to express what money can do is put to the right uses.
